I have a friend who had an attached tick a month ago.
Is it too late for her to take ABX?
What should I advise her? 400 mg (2 X 200) a day for 3 months?

Too late? Even more important now. The problem is always whether the tick was infected and with what. And for most of us who are tickbitten, we only find that out later.
It is said there is a window of opportunity in treating lyme after a tickbite. Some say it is a year, some say much less. After that, the lyme becomes a lot harder to treat successfully.

- Doxy, alone is not enough. It can lead to chronic lyme because it does not address the cyst form (round body forms) of lyme.
Flagyl is needed - or something else that addresses the cyst form.
See Burrascano's guidelines here & maybe send your friend the link to this thread.

Evaluation of in-vitro antibiotic susceptibility of different morphological forms of Borrelia burgdorferi.
Excerpt:
. . . Conclusion
Antibiotics have varying effects on the different morphological forms of B. burgdorferi.
Persistence of viable organisms in round body forms and biofilm-like colonies may explain treatment failure and persistent symptoms following antibiotic therapy of Lyme disease. -

- Doxycycline:
NO SUN exposure to skin, even through a car window.
Take with food (but not DAIRY or high mineral content foods. Calcium, magnesium can block action) and
Full glass of water to wash it way down.
Do not lie down for (? not sure if 1/2 or a full hour) after taking it.
PROBIOTICS - taken hours away from Doxy can help prevent systemic candida infection that can come from antibiotic use. Take probiotics several times a day - just not too close to doxy or doxy can negate the help. -

TICK BITES - Embedded Deer Tick With No Signs or Symptoms of Lyme (see appendix): Decide to treat based on the type of tick, whether it came from an endemic area, how it was removed, and length of attachment (anecdotally, as little as four hours of attachment can transmit pathogens). The risk of transmission is greater if the tick is engorged, or of it was removed improperly allowing the tick's contents to spill into the bite wound. High-risk bites are treated as follows (remember the possibility of co-infection!): 1) Adults: Oral therapy for 28 days. 2) Pregnancy: Amoxicillin 1000 mg q6h for 6 weeks. Test for Babesia, Bartonella and Ehrlichia. Alternative: Cefuroxime axetil 1000 mg q12h for 6 weeks. 3) Young Children: Oral therapy for 28 days.
EARLY LOCALIZED - Single erythema migrans with no constitutional symptoms: 1) Adults: oral therapy- must continue until symptom and sign free for at least one month, with a 6 week minimum. 2) Pregnancy: 1st and 2nd trimesters: I.V. X 30 days then oral X 6 weeks 3rd trimester: Oral therapy X 6+ weeks as above. Any trimester- test for Babesia and Ehrlichia 3) Children: oral therapy for 6+ weeks. DISSEMINATED DISEASE - Multiple lesions, constitutional

I personally would want 200mg doxy twice a day for 6-8wks.
Agreed. Or, if she's having symptoms, that long PAST the last symptom.

If you cannot get your hands on a prescription cyst buster try some GSE.
