I've had Lyme for 11 years and have been treating for 3 years without much improvement. I don't have a LLMD right now.
5 days ago, I found an attached tick on my scalp while visiting family in rural North Carolina. My husband removed the entire tick easily with tweezers. I've read that the infections to be concerned about in NC are Erlichia and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Both of those require Doxy, but I'm allergic to Doxy. My primary dr. is willing to write a prescription for me, but she doesn't know what to prescribe. We can't find ANY other abx suggested besides Doxy.
Any advice is appreciated!!

Sixgoofykids - I have wondered if my reaction to doxy is a herx instead of allergy, also. After only one day (2 doses) I begin vomiting. It goes on for days, even though I don't take any more doxy. I'm unable to keep down even gatorade and become dehydrated and in the ER. This has happened twice, but years before my lyme diagnosis (was for sinus infections).
I do have a true allergy to rocephin, which caused intense itching all over, about 15 mins. into infusion. I'd like to try doxy again, with zofran, to prevent the vomiting, and keep benadryl close-by. But, my PCP is unwilling to prescribe it because she saw the other 2 reactions (she's been my dr. for many years).

I can see how it causes vomiting. I had to take it with meals and sometimes still got nauseous. My doc prescribed Doryx, which is the same med, but easier on the stomach.
