I have read that a bull's eye rash (EM) is not always red with a white center. Can it sometimes be a bruise-like rash (I'm tan but not that dark in skin tone)?

Can someone please look at the link below and let me know if this are a bull's rash from Lyme or is it another tick-borne diease? The photos were taken 6 - 12 days after removing an embedded deer tick.

Sure could be! And since you know it came from a tick.... what else could it be???

and YES it is sometimes a bruise-like rash.

Make sure you get a doctor to look at it ASAP. It looks like it could be infected, but I am not a doctor.

I think there are pictures of rashes here:

www.TreatTheBite.com

I'll also bring you another link with rashes.

If it is ANY TICK-BORNE ILLNESS, you need to FIND OUT and get on meds right away!!!

Look at page 2 for rashes (I think):

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/29917?

For initial bites, I would want 200mg of doxycycline twice a day for 6 wks to knock it out.

I agree with LymeToo.

Certainly appears to be lyme. And the rash need not be at the bite site.

Save those photos. Find a lyme literate MD now and you may be able to avoid a lot of sorrow later.

You should also be assessed for other tick-borne infections. AVOID STEROIDS if offered.

Good luck.

Diagnosing Lyme Disease (&/or whatever else is going on)

Other tick-borne infections and other chronic stealth infections - as well as certain conditions - that can hold us back are discussed here.

(What ILADS is) . . . WHY you need an ILADS-educated, Lyme Literate Doctor - starting with assessment / evaluation.

===================

Doxycyline (or many other antibiotics) can cause lyme to go into the "cyst" form within 20 minutes of taking the first dose.

Antibiotics are not effective against this form of lyme and it can go into "hiding" and come back later as chronic lyme, harder to treat.

For that reason, many LLMDs also use what is called a "cyst-buster" Rx such as Flagyl:

Re: Flagyl / Tinidazole

Infect Drug Resist. 2011;4:97-113. Epub 2011 May 3.

Evaluation of in-vitro antibiotic susceptibility of different morphological forms of Borrelia burgdorferi.

Excerpt:

. . . Conclusion

Antibiotics have varying effects on the different morphological forms of B. burgdorferi.

Persistence of viable organisms in round body forms and biofilm-like colonies may explain treatment failure and persistent symptoms following antibiotic therapy of Lyme disease.
=========================

Liver support & Adrenal support is also very important before and all during treatment. Most LLMDs are well aware of those methods.

About that embedded deer tick that you removed.

Be 100% certain that no mouth parts were left behind. If they were, they should be incised (with a surgical blade) at a doctor's office.

Most doctors won't agree but it can save much heartache later to be sure now.

This is exactly what my rash looked like when I was first exposed. The Dr's told me not to worry about it and it went undiagnosed for three years.

Needless to say I am not doing so well. Please get to a LLMD asap. Early diagnosis is the key!

In my opinion yes. My 15 year old daughter just go back from a missions trip with our church and went to OK and TX.

She had 4 rashes, 1 of them looked just like yours. The others were bright red round circles.

She saw an LLMD 5 dayas after she got home and was diagnosed with lyme.

She is currently on doxy.

Yes, from your description and the pictures, you meet the CDC case definition of Lyme disease. Keep the pictures -- they are your proof. Do NOT wait for blood tests, as they may be falsely negative at this stage (they are antibody tests, and you may not yet be producing antibodies). There is nothing controversial about it -- get a doctor to prescribe antibiotics ASAP. You stand the best chance of a full recovery at this stage.
