Have another question. My daughter is having breathing problems that come and go for a week. Sometimes it can be so bad that it scares her- she can't get her breath. She has had periods that she can't breathe deeply but nothing like this. The cardiologist and pulmonologist see nothing and she appears healthy. If it were lyme, can lyme cause symptoms but they not show up on any testing or would the cardiologist be able to see damage done or the pulmonologist be able to see symptoms of her not getting air???? Know lyme can can cause anxiety issues. The rest of the family has been diagnosed with lyme previously. We are in PA and she moved to Louisianna 3 years ago.

Hi bonbon. I can only tell you my personal experience. I am serum positive for lyme and a large number of coinfections. I am having HUGE breathing difficulties myself. Like your daughter, I also cannot get a full breath at times. It is absolutely terrifying.

I have also been to cardiologists and I saw a top pulmonologist here in ct. I can tell you that lyme and/or coinfections can most definitely be the cause of these symptoms, even if cardiac and lung testing are "normal". While I think anxiety might play a factor with some breathing issues, I think more than likely your daughter may be like me and having breathing problems from lyme and/or coinfections and the not being able to breathe itself is causing anxiety. In other words, anxiety is a side effect of the not getting air, not the other way around.

Has your daughter had any lyme testing done? She definitely sounds like she needs to if she hasn't. Jess.

It's a typical symptom called "air hunger."

You might try searching that term on this site, or elsewhere? I believe that treating with abx eventually resolves it, but I'm not the expert in this.

Anyone?

Breathing problems were and sometimes still are a huge issue for me.

Before my diagnosis, when I was on the roller coaster of mainstream docs, trying to find out what was wrong with me, those docs didn't see anything and thought the breathing problems were from anxiety or depression.

After diagnosis, the breathing issues turned out to be from co-infections of Lyme, most typically from babesia.

Yes, I agree it sounds like air hunger, which is a common symptom of babesia.

The symptom you are describing is referred to as "air hunger." It is terrible.

It is primarily associated with the co-infection Babesia. Treatment is typically Zithromax with Mepron and Artemisinin / Cryptolepis.

I had it too...it is gone now.

Here is a list of Babesia Symptoms from the book "The Lyme Disease Solution" by Dr. S.

Babesiosis

As with other co-infections, there is a lot of overlap of symptoms between Lyme disease and Babesiosis. An accumulation of the following signs and symptoms probably warrant testing and/or treatment of Babesiosis:

___Chills

___Fatigue and often excessive sleepiness

___High fever at onset of illness

___Night sweats that are often drenching and profuse

___Severe muscle pains, especially the large muscles of the legs (quads, buttocks, etc.)

___Neurological symptoms often described as "dizzy, tipsy, and spaciness," similar to a sensation of "floating" or "walking off the top of a mountain onto a cloud"

___Depression

___Episodes of breathlessness, "air hunger", and/or cough

___Decreased appetite and/or nausea

___Spleen and/or liver enlargement

___Abnormal labs (low white blood count, low platelet counts, mild elevation of liver enzymes, and elevated sed rate)

___Headaches (migraine-like, persistent, and especially involving the back of the head and upper neck areas)

___Joint pain (more common with Lyme and Bartonella)

___anxiety/panic (more common with Bartonella)

As well as babesia, candida in the airways can cause this. I never saw any improvement in these symptoms when I was treating for babesia with Mepron or herbals, but some people do.

I have experienced these symptoms for quite a few years and have also found them to be worse when my heart rhythm problems are more pronounced.

Just to confuse matters further, if you are experiencing a lot of GI symptoms, bloating etc, it is also much harder to get deep
breaths, I am finding.

You don't mention if your daughter has been tested or diagnosed? I agree it's probably

babesia and yes Candida can get in the lungs as well.

Once I was hospitalized for 3 days because I could not breathe (before I knew I had lyme and co's), all pulmonary functions were

normal except for some slight diffusion in my lungs.

I was, patronizingly, told "not to think about it" and that it was probably anxiety or my

natural dessicated thyroid med (they try to blame
everything on that med)

My air hunger and breathing issues have improved tremendously since I've been treating the

Babesia. There was a time period when I would use a nebulizer almost everynight.
