I drank coffee when I was sick. I drink coffee now that I'm well.
I did switch to decaf for a few months when I was sick at the request of my LLMD, but it made no difference in my sleeping, so I switched back to regular.

I drink coffee 24 hours a day. It seems to have no particular effect on me. Similar to what six was saying...
I have had multiple symptoms, on and off, while drinking coffee, including anxiety, and I really don't think the coffee had any bearing on it, whatsoever.
This is just MY situation, though. My fiance is a different story. He doesn't have Lyme disease (that we know of) but if he even has one sip of a caffeinated beverage, he goes into a full panic attack.
Let your body tell you, I suppose.
I heart coffee!

Lucky you, ShakespeareMama! I have to drink mine before noon or it does affect my sleep! But drinking decaf in the morning made no difference over drinking caffeine in the morning.
It's never affected me with anxiety or anything else. I just love the taste of it.

- Dr. Burrancano's guidelines suggest: No Caffeine.
This is not just about sleep but the adrenal damage that goes with lyme can get worse with caffeine.
Coffee also might be off limits on a gluten-free diet, even decaf - some say - due to possible cross reactions. SixGoofyKids has a link below about that topic for clarity.
However, GREEN TEA is excellent - and while it contain some caffeine (less than black coffee), it is BALANCED with L-Theanine so as not to have negative effects as coffee can.

Well, I do have green tea, as well. I guess it's time I start making a shift to drinking more tea and less coffee.
I didn't realize coffee had any impact on a gluten-free diet. I'll have to pass that on to my mom. Thanks!

I drink my morning coffee. I can't function without it. My LLNP said it was fine to do.

I drank one cup of half caffeinated coffee for the first few years into treatment. It never caused yeast for me. My llmd never said to not have it.
Last fall an immune system specialist that my llmd referred me to advised me to stop caffeine in order to heal my adrenals. She said it is like driving with one foot on the gas pedal and the other on the brake pedal. Well, it worked!!!!
I recently got test results back and for the first time in 6 years my adrenal function is normal!
I have been sneaking a very small amount of caffeine back into my low acid, decaf coffee on some days which I need to stop doing!
Its a tough one to part with, no doubt about it. And it tastes so good! But definitely bad for the adrenals.

- SGK,
Thanks for that link. I will adjust my comment about that above to include checking out the various takes on that. -

Thanks, Keeb. I think it's another one of those "everyone is different" categories.

Thanks sixgoofy I was thinking the same thing as one of the people that had posted in that forum. There is virtually no protein in coffee.
I googled it and there is 1/4 gram of protein in a cup of coffee, this guy says that it's 10% of that 1/4 gram that is the problem protein. I am not quitting my one cup!

- RC1,
not about the coffee/gluten question as I've not read all about that yet,
however, regarding gluten from grains, it's important to know that even the tiniest trace can cause havoc. It's not so much about amount for many but even a trace at all.
It took me a long to time to come to terms with that. -

- Good for you.
Based on a few past errors, I always have to remember that it's not worth it for a slip up. After reading that gluten can affect brain function for up to six months after exposure (for those with celiac), I finally got scared straight.
I was astounded by results from a Google search for "Hidden Sources of Gluten" - others may find this of interest. -
