I'm interested in trying this protocol, but I'm not sure that I can find a doctor close by who knows anything about it. I could order the test online, but would have no idea how to interpret the results.
Has anyone just gone ahead and tried this protocol? If so, have you had a doctor monitor your mineral levels, particularly your Cu:Zn ratio?
Would love to know others' experiences on this protocol.
BTW, there's a lot of talk on this board about faulty methylation and fixing it. Dr. K states that addressing HPU/KPU will correct the fault in most cases.

I used the Core from Biopure for KPU per my doc in WA. We did not bother with the test as I had the classic white lines in my fingernails at the time.
We did and still do monitor my mineral levels as they can really get depleted when detoxing heavy metals.
I will probably replenish minerals with the Core and or other things for a very long time, if not forever.
Maybe you could print out some info about KPU for your doctor.

I am trying to do it by myself. We have high manganese levels in our water, so I just got some of the minerals and am doing it on my own (I need to get the rest of them though).
I felt like once I added the biotin I started detoxing more heavy metals. My nails also are looking better now. I'm just now getting around to adding more zinc--makes me feel better.
You may want to get other minerals tested too. I am really low in copper, iron, zinc and carnitine. I am detoxing right now, but I was low in iron and zinc even before I started detoxing.

Catgirl, I feel a lot better when I take zinc too. We have copper pipes in the house and I think that might contribute to my being zinc deficient.
But since I don't have any white marks on my fingernails, I'm leery of just starting the protocol without being monitored.

Interesting... I'm interested in this. I think you may be able to do the test on your own without a doctor. Maybe start with that?
Deficiency as well as excess in either nutrient can produce a variety of biochemical and physiologic changes and has been implicated in the etiology of chronic disease. Zinc deficiency is associated with retarded growth, impaired immunocompetency and wound healing, and blunted taste acuity, whereas excessive zinc intake by supplementation can impair immunologic function, interfere with the metabolism of other essential minerals and alter lipid indices (Abdel-Mageed and Oehme 1990, Chandra 1984, Fosmire 1990, Hooper et al. 1980, Mertz et al. 1989).
