Hi,

After being off all abx for a month because of my gut issues, and being told by my gastro doc that I may have colitis, I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on September 12.

In the meantime, I was put back on bicillin IM shots 3x weekly, and taking malarone and art for babs.

I had been on bicillin for a long time before my stomack went, together with oral abx.

Without abx, I was sliding.

Now, after the fourth shot of bicillin, I am soo weak and sick. Foggy etc.

I know bicillin is not enough abx to treat Lyme and co, but I don't even know if I can handle the bicillin.

I feel like my stomach can go just with this.

And now when I'm feeling so 'Lymey', am I sliding further or am I herxing from the bicillin?

Can bicillin possibly work without oral abx taken together with it?

I'll know more about my colon after the colonoscopy.

I'm nervous about the prep for this -if I'm having stomach issues now, what will it be like with having the prep?

But am I feeling my sx so strongly like this because of herx or slide?

Hopefully you are taking a good probiotic daily. Antibiotics kill everything, not just the bad stuff. Dr. Zhang makes an herb combination called AI3 that is designed to lesson the Herx reaction. It helped me a lot As for your digestive issues, Zhang also sells garlic (Allicin) that caused a really sever herx for me, but was very effective and caused no digestive side effects experienced with antibiotics. Allicin is one of the most potent antibiotics, literally life saving, and if you'd like to know more try reading Dr. S's books on coinfections/Lyme. Dr. S works with Dr. Zhang and tells a story about a child who was dying until they gave him IV Allicin (garlic)when all else had failed. The child lived.
Good luck to you and hang in there. It will get better, one step at a time. It did for me and finally, I have my life back :-)

I wish I knew and could help you.

I started Bicillin-LA about six weeks ago.
2x/week injections.
I am also added a low dose of Doxy daily.

I feel dreadful. Seems all symptoms much worse.

I read where folks feel so much better on Bicillin. But others feel worse. I don't understand.

I guess I am herxing. Which means things being killed. Which means for LD that must be the spirochetes. Perhaps lots of them.

I had somewhat thought that taking B-LA would kill the spirochetes that were "caught unawares" and put most of the rest into cyst form.
Perhaps in cyst form giving me a bit of a break from symptoms. Then take a cyst buster.

I don't know what to think. I will stay on the B-LA - but would like some idea (as Talktel would) what the B-LA is doing.

the thing that worries me is that I am not taking any other med but the bicillin 3x weekly.

Otherwise I would assume its a herx. I know bicillin alone is not enough for Lyme.

That's what scares me that its a slide.

I'm having a colonoscopy this Wednesday, and have to do the prep.

I'm so very weak now, that I don't know how I'll do the prep and survive the crazy runs.

My stomach feels like it can go just from the Bicillin.

Which is why I'm having the colonoscopy in the first place, because of having the runs and a possible colitis.

So can bicillin alone without other meds cause a herx- and the weakness and neuro sx I'm feeling?

Or is the bicillin alone not enough and I'm sliding?

Can bicillin on it's own, help with Lyme?

Just to add, I'm on three probiotics;

FLorastore, VSL#3, and Megaflora.

Talktel I know how you feel. I had to do a prep/cleanout for my hysterectomy several yrs ago and I was severely dehydrated from it. I was so sick and still going when I got to the prep area for surgery!

Speak with you doctor doing the colonoscopy and let him know what you are experiencing. There are gentler preps they can do.

I am also on bicillin 2/week. This is my 3rd month on it along with zithromax and mepron. I experienced severe herxing several days ago. Severe lower back pain, headaches, dizziness. I stopped all my meds and held off doing my shot and now 3 days later I am feeling much better.

I'm not sure if bicillin would be causing your symptoms. I was suspected of having colitis before lyme treatment, but have not had a colonoscopy to check. My symptoms have been up and down on treatment. I do know for me some of the probiotics seemed to aggravate my stomach more than help. You could possibly be on probiotics that are a little too strong for you and may need to start wioth a gentler regimen.

What has worked for me is using culturelle during the day or acidophilus, and using a stronger probiotic at night before bed. I also drink kefir on occasion. Too much of anything is not good and I wonder if this is the case with the probiotics???

I hope you get some relief soon and all goes well with your colonoscopy!

Ellen,

My stomach is definitely worse without the probiotics I take.

Mind you, the prep will be at home, so if anything happens,I'm not under medical care.

My doc has his own endoscopy/colonoscopy place, so that's not a hospital neither, although he is affiliated with a top hospital.

THis suspected colitis developed recently.

Interestingly, my sleep issues have returned big time too. I keep on waking up during the night and cannot fall asleep again.

This is with Lunesta and Clonipin for sleep.

I'm back on bicillin about two weeks after being off it for a month. That's why I'm wondering if this is a herx.

I got weaker when off abx, which is why, I'm not sure if the weakness and sx are a herx or a continuing slide.
