I have been mostly off treatment for quite some time now but I got a dental infection a couple of weeks ago and had to do a course of Clindamycin.

Now, I have been getting fevers (100.9) and diarrhea, headaches, bodyaches. I ended up in ER last night and they said could be C Diff. I wasn't able to give them sample last night though. Had to get IV fluids w/Zofran and Motrin.

One of the things I'm worried about is I haven't done any Flagyl throughout my Lyme treatment and I know that is what they will use if it's C Diff and I'm scared of what the Flagyl will do to me herx-wise.

I know it's a cyst buster but does it also kill what comes out of the cyst or just bust the Lyme cysts open? God help me.

The famous Dr. H recommends his patients take saccaromyces boulardii (probiotic) for preventing C-diff. He says it works better than any other for this purpose.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saccharomyces_boulardii

I have never used it, but did do a search for sources:

By Pure Encapsulations - sent in refrigerated pack - only docs can order?

Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Encapsulations-Saccharomyces-Boulardii-60s/dp/B005PXEN50

Organic pharmacy (request ice packs)
http://organicpharmacy.org

(search: saccharomycesBoulardii)

By NOW & stable at room temp

http://www.betterhealthinternational.com/productDetails.asp?prodID=N2934&utm_source=become&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=become_bhi

Thorne also makes sacc b

ANYONE ELSE have a favorite brand or reliable source??

I was aware of the risk of C Diff w/Clindamycin so I was taking S. Boulardii. I ran out of it for a few days about a 4 days after stopping the Clindamycin and then started up again.

I am so confused as to what other probiotics I should be taking in my specific case b/c a few mos. ago I tested high for D-lactate levels so was told to avoid probiotics w/lactobacillus.

I do have D-lactate free probiotics from Custom Probiotics. I hope that will be enough along with the S. Boulardii.

Will do.

The one by Custom Probiotics is actually called "D-Lactate Free"-that's the name.

I think "Align" is also D-Lactate free but only contains bifidobacteria. Would be easier though since it's a capsule not a powder like the Custom Probiotics.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Tickled1!

About flagyl, I believe it kills the cyst.

Take care and get better!

So I just got a call with the test results and I do indeed have C Diff. They prescribed Flagyl but I will call my doctor's office when they open and make sure that's what he wants me to take.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. The fun just never ends.

Here's a question: Does anyone know what infections Flagyl hits? In addition to the Lyme and C Diff I also have Myco P and suspected SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).

It would be nice if going through all this proved beneficial for me by the Flagyl hitting multiple infections.

What about that fecal transplant procedure?

I'm not sure how I feel about it, or if I would do it, but I have heard rave reviews. Certainly worth looking into.

Good luck!

Creeps me out. I'll try conventional methods first. Hopefully it won't come to that. Cramps at the moment are bad and haven't heard back from LLMD yet. Scared to start the Flagyl w/out talking to him first since in the 5+ years since being dx w/Lyme I have not taken Flagyl.

Urgh, Tickled1..

Sorry you are suffering. A family member had this and it is tough.

Hope you can take the Flagyl or vancomycin

and the LLMD gets back to you quickly.

Best of luck!!

Thank you. LLMD did get back to me yesterday, well his assistant anyway. Said take the Flagyl b/c not much choice and S. boulardi and Therelac. I'll stick to my D. Lactate free probiotics though instead of Therelac. Therelac also has milk and I have milk allergy.

It upsets me that they give advice without even looking at my file b/c file has the info about milk allergy and d lactate acidosis. Just proves we really have to be our own doctors to some degree and be informed.

I am already feeling better today after 2 doses of Flagyl. I think I caught this early and that is thanks to everything I've learned on LymeNet. Before I even started the Clindamycin I already knew C Diff was a risk so when the symptoms started I knew right away that was a possibility and went to ER right away.
