i have been on cowden now for several days. i have got diahhrea but of course i am drinking much more water than i normally do.

so far no herx or anything, just a mild headache.

can herbs cause diahhrea? can they cause elevated liver enzymes or spleen problems?

i really don't know much about tinctures.

Hum... I just started on Byron White a week ago and just started getting diahhrea yesterday.

I would say yes to herbs and d.

I was told by my LLMD that yes, some herbs CAN cause liver enzymes to go up (OOO and Kava Kava to name 2).

I have a history, years ago after my first treatment for lyme, of gallstones (from rapid weight loss I think). Well since I started the byron white my spleen feels like it might be inflammed like it was back then.

My liver e.'s are also slightly elevated and I have been off abx.s for some time now.

The whole thing gets confusing after a while...

well i'm hoping to do well. it's better than taking a ton of pills and abx which i can't tolerate.

wonder if you can get c. diff from tinctures...anybody know??

i'm going on a trip soon and think carrying the tinctures will be easier.

My daughter has just started Cowden. No stomach upset

I asked our LLMD about liver checks while on the protocol,
was told not necessary.

Just another opinion.

I think C-Diff is a lot less likely from herbs but still a possibility. So taking probiotics is important with both herbal and abx protocols... Obviously, take the probiotics at a different time of day from the herbs/abx...

I also had diarrhea from Banderol, a Cowden protocol component, but it diminished over time. Also I used probiotics and ended up needing to take Diflucan for a different reason, but I believe it helped the diarrhea as well. Good luck!

I have constipation problems but the Cowden Protocol really helped that. I think it may be the alcohol in the tinctures that make us "go". It happens when I use other alcohol based tinctures, too. After a couple of weeks my bowels went back to normal.

I'm on day 14 of the Cowden Protocol and have had no stomach problems. I should also mention that after having a severe headache and severe stiff neck almost every day for the past year; multiple trips to my family doctor, 2 MRI's of the brain, etc - I am now on my 5th straight day without a severe headache or bad stiff neck. I don't know if this is the Cowden herbs or not, but I'm happy with the result so far!

if you are traveling by air be sure to carry the tinctures on the plane, in a camera film case to protect from xrays or wrap in heavy duty foil, same as when driving by car, wrap heavily in foil, keep everything away from microwaves, cell phones, refrigerators, etc

Oh rats Tu Tu.

I started my daughter on Cowden- she had been antibiotics for a long while,

had to discontinue.

Hope for some healing for her on Cowden.

Early yet, but these tinctures do have merit, IMO.

No .. don't worry, surprise. Randi just has a long history of her gut not being able to handle abx or herbs due to her diverticulitis.

I'm just concerned.

Once you have had c diff, you are always predisposed to getting it again since the bacteria forms dormant spores in your colon that can remain for many years. Anything that disrupts gut flora can cause the c diff to become active again. Sorry, it stinks but that is the reality. Best wishes
