I have bad gut issues. After being with my husband I have abdominal cramping. It starts down low then slowly works up toward under my ribs. My abdomen seems to swell up too. I have to just lay real still for a while before it slowly dwindles.

Inflammation from Lyme?

This has only happened maybe three times.

I've had scans and stuff but nothing.

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thank you

The Lyme bacteria can affect all tissues, everywhere. If there's nothing else physically going on, I suggest you take some pain med for the duration...

I'm not a doctor, and not sure what's going on for you, but pain after intercourse isn't a good thing.

Im wondering what the bad gut issues are that you have, do you have a specific diagnosis? Do you have IBS?

Heres a thought, have you been checked by a gynecologist for possible female problems, such as endometriosis?

What kind of "scans and stuff" have you already had? I'm not trying to be nosy, just trying to trouble-shoot.

Hope things get better for you. Take care.

I have a cystitis that somehow also is connected to my bowels. I have severe pain also after being with my husband. I think my nerves have been damaged by the Lyme. I have been to a gynecologist, bowel specialist, etc. and they don't know what makes it happen.

Hi cozynana,

I can't give you a professional medical advice but I can sympathize with you. Your problem seems so similar to

my experience with Lyme. I started experiencing numbness in the one side of the vaginal lip and

painful intercourse 4 years ago. Since then sex become unbearable. I had numerous tests done, also 2 MRIs

but they didn't explained pain and the swelling I experience there.

I recently discovered that I have Lyme. Since I started taking the doxy the swelling went down

and the numbness is not so bad. So I would assume it can be Lyme related.

I hope you find some relieve in my post. I know what you are going through!

I have had problems w/painful intercourse for years, again previously healthy and no problems. I can't even have sex at all, I have many pelvic problems, ic, pudenal nerve dysfunction, etc.. very sharp pains, shooting pains into my stomach, severe sharp rectal pains, sometimes when I sit I immediately get up because of the sharp pains.

Just another thing in life I won't be able to do. Suprise, suprise.

I don't know if this is lyme related, I would be willing to bet it is, but no one can say for sure, I mean this started in my 20's. Lyme affects nerves so maybe it is, my body is a complete mess from head to toe. I don't even bother treating any symptoms anymore, they are beyone control, there are too many.

Parasites/worms can play a MAJOR role in Lyme disease and is often an overlooked co-infection even by the best LLMDs.

Pin worms live in the lower part of the large intestine in the cecum. Parasites can cause a lot of pain. Everyone here should google parasite symptoms and check the symptom list at Humaworm for more info.

Have you been checked for IC...the bladder problem?

So many things join in with Lyme, my diagnosis is chronic pelvic pain-which translated means they don't know why I have it along with IC.

Scar tissue doesn't show on any scans....

Just throwing stuff out. It just isn't much fun.

Thank you for all of the replys.

I have had full abdominal ct scan with contrast, pelvic exam and inner ultrasound to look at my uterus and ovaries.

My LLMD put me on progesterone pills and that's when the pain got worse. And it seems to only be happening around ovulation time. My last cycle was only 21 days. Ugh.

I can also feel the pain in my rectum too. I have no idea if it's bladder, uterus or digestive. I too have a hard time sitting down during these attacks. It's like knives being shoved up there!

My gut issues are bad. I have several bowels movements a day. Nausea, throat closing up, cramping no appetite weight loss.

My symptoms become worse when having a flare. I am now getting fevers, sore throats, body aches and twitches.......the list goes on and on.
