Some people have said that Lyme can cause skin conditions. Is it the bacteria that causes it? Do you think that using an antibiotic skin cream on the affected area would help? Or would you have to constantly switch the type of antibiotic because of resistance?

Katrina,

Skin symptoms have always been part of the picture for my husband. One of his former LLMDS always used to say "borrelia loves the skin." Sometimes it seems like a Lyme and/or co-infection symptom; other times, it seems to be a toxin issue.

Some topicals that have helped him over the years are:
--artemisinin gel

--Gentamicin cream

--a peppermint enzyme spray that is made by a company called
Safe Solutions. I just checked, and now it's called Tweet Mint. It's marketed as a non-toxic cleaner, but it has often had good effects for him when sprayed on the skin.

--If it is toxin-related, a paste made with bentonite clay and water or apple cider vinegar can sometimes draw things out.

As far as oral abx go, my notes tell me that Rifampin has been what has helped his skin symptoms most in the past. But of course, they always come back.

I hope others will come along with ideas. I'd like to know too.

In addition to properly addressing and treating: lyme/TBD (and HHV-6, perhaps and even porphyria) & parasites, heavy metals: skin trouble is often a sign of liver / kidney toxicity and overwork.

See salves at Mountain Rose Herbs. A good goldenseal & myrhh salve is nice. One with tea tree oil, too.

Avoid all petroleum products and dyes on the skin - from ANY personal care products.

Avoid soaps or shampoos that contain SLS - sodium laurel sulfate.

Katrina, I used to have constant skin rashes... Before I was dxd I by chance realized that doxy helped with these rashes like nothing else. Even prednisone. Doxycicline works in the skin... That is why dermatologists prescribe it for acne.

I have had one rash since long term abx 1.5 years ago... And that was with a prdnisone shot!

So I don't know if it's bacterial, inflammation or detox... But for me doxy worked.

My LLMD believes I have b. afzellie (european version). I have been getting lyme "bulls eye" type rashes that eventually go away but leave my skin atrophied, like tissue paper.

I haven't found anything to help.

My next approach may be food grade H202 (hydrogen peroxide) in bath water. Read how it helped someone tremendously with Lyme in general, not necessarily my type of Lyme. I figure if it's so close to the surface of my skin, maybe the H202 will do the job??!

I have used coconut oil on my skin for a long time, but I can't say it has helped.

This may be completely off track but lately i've noticed many skin "tags" growing in the groin and underarm area....i seem to remember tags years ago, when i first got sick...is it possible that these skin tags are evidence of Lyme resurgent? it might explain why i feel worse every day....
