I just wanted to share this with you guys. I have treated Babs like 4 times in the last 2 years. The first time with Mepron/ Zith then with 6 Malarones the other times.
I still had Babs symptoms, not very pronounced, but I had them. I told my LLMD I wanted to get off the Malarone because the Proguanil in the Malarone messes with my Folic acid and I have the MTHRFR mutation. I get anemic, and I found that this could be a reason for it.
My LLMD put me on double dose Mepron, and OMG I am herxing so much. I am miserable right now, I am 7 days in on the new protocol.
I just am feeling like the Malarone wasn't doing anything other than keeping the load down. I'm hoping this is the last of my infections. Most days I was hovering around 90% but still had lingering symptoms. Babs symptoms.
I just wanted to put this out there. Has anyone had a similar experience? Myself, I am very surprised by this.

I havent had that dose but it makes sense. I'm almost into a month of mepron (2 tsp daily) along with zith at night. Its kinda like doxy I guess.. a low dose keeps the Lyme from replicating, a higher dose actually kills it. I am wondering if I should ask if I can go on a higher dose or maybe it is too early? I am starting Artemisinin Nov. 1st.
Also, I wonder if a more stronger macrolide drug would give me more improvement than azithromycin, such as Roxithromycin. I was reading an article where it says Roxithromycin has been tested to possess antimalarial activity. I am going to mention this at my next appointment. Here is also an interesting diagram I found :

Tony, I have been treating for a long time, and I think I just developed resistance. For some people the regular dose is fine and works.
My point is more about the Malarone, I was taking a lot of it and it didn't clear the infection. I think that the absorption is not that great with Malarone, so it wasn't enough to kill it.
Regular dose Mepron didn't work for me the first time, that's why I'm doing double. Lots of people clear the infection with the regular dose.

About 6 months ago when I was diagnosed with "sinusitis" i was prescribed Bactrim. When I took it, I developed a horrible headache and felt awful. Back then I was completely uneducated and didnt know what herxing was. That was the night I went to the E.R and they told me to see a psychiatrist because they found nothing wrong and it was my 3rd time in 2 months. Now that I look back, I was definitely herxing. I am going to ask about adding Bactrim to the Mepron & Zith.

Yup...I know the feeling. I'm treating the same. I'm also on 2 tsp 2x/ day. I take Biaxin XL and Plaquenil too.
LLMD just added Clindamycin. WHOA!
It's the only thing that has touched the night sweats. Finally making some progress again.
I highly recommend Clindamycin. Just take your S. Boulardii!!

Why can't you take mepron and bactrim at the same time? Is there some sort of interaction?

Sorry to mis-speak...
I meant to say don't double the dose of Mepron and add Bactrim DS at the same time. It's best to stagger changes in dose increases and adding a new ABX.
