I'm so confused. I have been feeling really good the past few days good after having a rough week last week. I had placed a call to my LLNP for something for yeast as I thought some of the muscle pain I was having could be related to that.

Between them not being in the office and me not able to pick it up right away I did not start it till Thursday. By then I was feeling alot better, actually pretty great, but decided to start it anyway.

Today I woke up with horrendous back pain. It's difficult to even walk. Every time I bare weight on my left leg I kept horrible shooting nerve pain in my back.

I'm wondering if taking my abx along with the diflucan has caused a big die off?? I wonder too if maybe just taking all these meds and supplements is too much for my system to handle.

I drank a lot of lemon water and even added in some cayenne pepper for detox and drank some of the yogi detox tea, but nothing is helping. [Frown]

This up one day down the next is driving me crazy!

there is a Lyme treatment that uses Diflucan alone, however, what you are describing sounds like actual back pain, which may not be related to Lyme at all.

The first time I took Diflucan I felt terribly ill, but it was more general & all-over, not as specific as your back & shooting nerve pain.

I believe Diflucan hits Lyme in the cyst form, although it's not as good as Flagyl.

I will have to ask my LLNP this week at my appt. Due to the amount of pain I was in I did not take my dose today. At this point I'm not sure what is causing it.

IMO, your sudden back pain is Lyme. I suffered for decades from chronic back pain with episodes of severe pain like you are having. Had two spinal surgeries on top of four shoulder surgeries and two hand surgeries. It was ALL LYME. After 4 1/2 years of Lyme treatment I no longer have to see an orthopedic doc. Pain is greatly diminished and I never have "episodes" other than transient herxes.

Sick since at least age 6, now 67. Decades of misdiagnosis. Numerous arthritic, neuro, psych, vision, cardiac symptoms. Been treating for 7 years, incl 8 mos on IV. Bart was missed so now treating that.

If your pain is in the spinal fluid in your back, the diflucan probably did it. I get HORRIBLE herxes from Diflucan. It makes my head feel swollen and like all the spinal fluid is inflammed in my spine. Each step I take hurts my spine.

Last time I had this herx (from Diflucan) I went to the ER. After many tests that came back normal, I let them do a spinal tap. They ran back into my room minutes later to inform me that they were admitting me. Viral meningitis.

Yes, I believe Diflucan can cause spinal back pain!!! (if that is the pain you feel)

My LLMD stated that Diflucan CAN kill FL1953 and lyme.... and it does in me! (I'm on a one week rotation with it each month).

I know now that when I herx that hard, that I 'clinically' have menigitis. They kept asking me how bad my headache was.... kept telling THEM it wasn't a headache... my head was swollen feeling... oh the fun.

--------------------
Lyme, Babs, Fry Bug..... Whatever it is, may a treatment be discovered to make us all whole again!

I have read that when diflucan kills off too much yeast at the same time, you can have a terrible herx. I think you did the right thing by stopping until you feel better.

Hope today is a better day for you.

Yes, nasty herx - not sure if it is yeast or lyme or both.

I take it once a month and take one every other day since it has a long half life. Plus it is hard on the liver so the spaced dosing is easier but just as effective on the body.

It certainly is killing something!

My LLMD also said something about it hitting lyme as well. Do not recall what form however.

Anything that kills yeast can cause a die-off reaction.

Diflucan can cause a herxheimer reaction, as others say. It can also cause liver stress and that can make all systems go a bit kaput.

Excess PORPHYRINS can also cause all kinds of trouble. See the Porphyria thread here. Diflucan is a drug that in contraindicated for those with porphyria, although, with liver support, it may be better tolerated - or not.

OLE works better for me, though, and is much safer for my liver.

Some things to help:

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.

All the systemic azoles are potentially hazardous and should be avoided. . . .

I'm a little surprised as I took diflucan a few times before during treatment and I never had any issues. Also, aren't alot of people on it along with their lyme abx to prevent yeast? If it's that hard on the liver I'm surprised they would be on it long term.

I'm wondering what to do now. Should I hold off on my abx for another day or two? Should I resume the diflucan?? Very confusing.

While MDs, in general, have never given the liver much thought and they certainly never consider liver protection against a liver-toxic drug (as most are, really) . . .

most MDs are clueless about porphyria, and even more so about a "chronic" or "secondary" porphyria.

Many LLMDs have gone far beyond their limited training to learn more and many DO consider the liver in their total treatment.

Still, most LLMDs are not aware of alternatives, or the full range of those.

Some are, still, in a limited manner. It's just not been their education. A good LL ND (with four years of medical training JUST in this area) might be best to consult. There is a link in the the LIVER SUPPORT thread above.

Some people do okay with Diflucan. Individual response can vary - and even flucuate from time to time for the same patient.

Still, it does create a herxheimer so liver support is ALWAYS a good idea, IMO. Always.

Since OLE is much safer and has many other benefits, were I to be a LL doctor (which I'm not), I would suggest this FIRST - before anyone even takes any antibiotic.

Decades ago, even before lyme diagnosis but very ill any on antibiotics (abx) for a total of 9 months out of many years - candida was just horrible.

Diflucan was a miracle when I found it but it still took a very long time to correct candida.

Later, when faced with abx again, I took Myrolea B OLE formula and there was NO candida effect. None. It saved me so much torture and cost.

But, as with any Rx or herbal Rx, it's good to rotate and know how to combine. A good ND has that knowledge. And, if we can't get to one, in that ND thread, there are many articles and links.

Berberine is another antifungal herbal to consider, among others.

Also to consider: LLMDs have enough harassment from the ISDA. Those who suggest support supplements have to be even more careful as, as rule, the American medical system does not approve herbal "treatments".

NDs are not even allowed to practice in some states, as the fight between the pharmaceutical industry and those practicing "natural" - "alternative" - or even "complementary" medicine walk a very fine line.

Sad but true. And any doctor who suggests ANYTHING can be criticized for that if it's not standard medical advice -

- as they are taught in medical college (where the curriculum is DESIGNED by the pharmaceutical companies who want to keep their profit margin going strong).

My llmd too mentioned that diflucan is sometimes used in lyme treatment.

They cited a 2004 study from wurzburg, germany where the subjects with neuro lyme took a 25 day course of 200 mg/day diflucan.

At the end of treatment, 8 of 11 patients had no bb symptoms and remained free of relapse one year later.

(But this is just one study and a very small sampling...)

I've been on 100mg Diflucan, first time ever, for 5 days now. In the afternoon and evening (I take it in the morning) I get severe pain in my back and some leg pain and nausea. ???

I am starting back on Diflucan tonight. I will see if it causes back/spinal pain. The herx is rather nasty but feel very good once through it.

Oh yes, I think so... sometime ago, I went on it because my candida was raging and I mean to tell you I had to stop and go on natural yeast meds. It made my knees flare and everything. Thankfully, with a good antiyeast protocol and photons, candida is being kept down and I am testing negatively energetically to Lyme. This is a huge accomplishment as I have been treating since 2008.

Can you technically call yeast die off a 'herx'? A herx I thought was meant to explain spirochette die off specifically.

Yeast can def cause die off sx.

The term Hex was around long before we knew anything about lyme. There are other conditions that create a Herx with yeast and parasite die off being two.

I find the herx from yeast and parasites tx. to be as tough as Lyme and sometimes more. Took Diflucan last night and have bad sweats, sore throat and headache. Yeast certainly dying and leaving behind neuro toxins.
