I have been having severe muscle pain suddenly. I'm about 2 weeks into strengthening my new combo, but this is not a typical herxing reaction for me.

I usually go for a run or a walk once per week but haven't done this in weeks, so that's not causing it. If anything I've been far less active than normal.

My anion gap was high so I'm thinking some level of acidosis could have caused this. Is there anything that can be done about that?

It's being accompanied by pretty severe weakness. I can't even eat with a fork because my muscles get so painful and weak.

I am taking a huge dose of magnesium daily and have been for months so that's not the issue.

I don't take OTC pain meds or prescription ones because I have to watch what I take with my liver and I have to be careful since I'm on Probenecid. I don't want things to be increased dangerously. I have tried turmeric, but it's not working quickly.

Any ideas for some kind of quick temporary fix? I have to go to work soon and I'm crying from the pain. I don't know what I'm going to do.

Summer-I wish I had some helpful hints for you. All I can say is, I could have written some of this post. I have terrible muscle pain and also neuralgias...but the pain is awful and I also have weakness with it as well.

I was at a restaurant last week with my ex boyfriend and I could barely lift the spoon to my lips to eat my soup. He had to come over to my side of the booth and feed me. He tried to play it off as a funny, jokey thing but it was in all actuality scary as hell for both of us. I am so sorry you are dealing with this as well. I hope some on here have some good suggestions, but you are def not alone with this. It is miserable. Jess.

Do you think it could be yeast? I was doing really well and all of a sudden had a return in muscle pain and my LLNP thought it might be yeast.

im going thru that too and i believe it is related to mitochondrial function. coq10 and fish oil make a difference-but they are expensive...but i have to buy them; like you using utensils is hard and making the bed or putting on deoderant too much pain. even getting in and out of bed or pulling covers up is excrutiating. for me it seems to be rotator cuff...a few inches below shoulder in muscle-not bone...where attachments are. raising my upper arm up or over is difficult to impossible. if my elboe is tight to my side i can move my lower arm and wrist with minimal pain...

i am between primarys cuz i moved and i am not sure what kind of specialist handles this. i hope to see a new primary this week and get sent to specialist cuz this is too much pain.

i do take 1200 ibu a day for arthritis and sometimes add neurontin for nerve pain but that isnt helping this pain. only the coq10. i had similar pain in my legs and used coq10 to help that. nothing else seems to help.

to me this is one of those things that is so much worse than a herx i need to find the specialist who deals with it and fix it...not worry that it is lyme.

good luck. please keep this thread going...let us know what helps and doesnt. and i will do the same

I had debilitating muscle pain early in treatment. I could barely move or sleep at night because of so much pain. I gave up gluten, did detox, took supplements, iced, heated, but I just continued to get worse.

I took Aleve for over a month straight. It didn't relieve all the pain, not by a long shot. But it took the edge off. My LLMD knew, and was ok with it. She prefers I take that or ibuprofen to going on a prescription pain killer.

Once on Mepron for 3 months the pain started to subside and now is completely gone. I only get it when I herx badly.

That said, my liver has been fine. I get a blood test every month.

I never found a diet, detox, or supplement that helped the muscle pain.

Thanks for the replies. I'm having a very rough time controlling my hands so pardon any typos.

I had a liver test a few days ago. My liver has been okay lately. I don't eat gluten, refined sugar or dairy.

I'm now getting extreme hypothermia-like chills along with the muscle pain. I suppose this could be a herx, but It doesn't feel like my normal ones.

I'm so weak. I slept all day and still it's nearly impossible for me to stay alert at work for a few hours.

Well I asked for a stronger combo and this is what I get lol.

What you're describing is sometimes how I feel when I herx. I also get chills and sometimes a feverish feeling and extreme fatigue. I also get a weak or "out of it" feeling when the fatigue hits.

But I also have other herx's with brain fog, malaise, and joint pain...
They aren't always the same combo of symptoms. I just chalk it up to the healing process. Some things flare and then heal faster than others.

Thanks Lymetoo and Family5,

It's funny you should say that about the flu because that's exactly what I woke up feeling like today. Dry eyes, swollen throat, severe body aching, weakness, spacy borderline delusional lol.

The flu-like thing is a typical herx for me so I guess that's what it is. I suppose the muscle pain is a new addition.

I'm going to have to just sleep all day. I am so incredibly weak. I have not felt this way since on Mepron and that only lasted a few days. I get herxing like clockwork on the first and third week of a new combo or an increase in dose.

i get the feverish-achey-flu's coming feeling too...but it never turns into flu.

i am probably eating a little more wheat-cuz i got scared about the rice thing awhile ago.

but i have been tested so many times and gone gluten free with no decrease in pain...i just dont think that is my problem

i am wondering if the one doxy a day i take for an eye infection(forever by an opthalmologist) is making my bugs resistant...and that is causing feverish feeling

i dont know...im having bad gi stuff yesterday and today but i think something got spoiled in the fridge during the storm...not sure...but if this goes away in a few days thats probably it. also we got a notice that water is "bad" but not bad enough to have to boil it. i am using bottled water but just realized my ice cubes have a pinkish-yellowish tinge to them...and the neighbors say this is common here...so i am wondering about that too

also since storm i am fighting mold sx again...basically i am a mess...and working on it. i wish i had a good doc tho

Summer... I hope this herx doesn't always involve muscle pain...yuck!!

Kayak... Did you make sure to eliminate HIDDEN sources of gluten when you tried going off?? It can take 6 wks or even months to tell a difference, especially if you have a lot of gut damage from it.

I've had several negative tests too... doesn't matter. I first tried the diet about 10-12 yrs ago and couldn't tell a difference.

Then I found out about the hidden sources of gluten. Did the diet again and my stomach was better within 2 weeks. My muscle pain went away after a few months.
