I have had bad brain fog for 3 years now and just wondering if it can ever become permenant?
How long have others had bad brain fog for and did it still clear fully with treatment?

What do you mean Lyme too, do you mean you had brain fog forever and it is now gone or you still have it?

maya, I've had brain fog for about nine years and I can honestly say I think it is all clear, I think from iv rocephin that I've been doing about 9 months, it's hard to tell because I'm on so many other orals.
I do still have confusion but that's because now my pain is worse than ever, but it's not neurological in nature, if that makes sense. lol

Maya - I, like you, have lived with SEVERE brain fog for what will be three years come January! It is a nightmare!
Shannon - Thank you for posting! Gives me hope! I am on IV for the second time (I was on it for about five months two years ago but had the PICC line for seven, and tried rocephin and then doxy...probably wasn't on it long enough...long story...but switched LLMDs...). Now with a different LLMD and started with vanco, but had problems with blood levels and had to switch to doxy...hoping it will help, too!
'Hope others, like Shannon, will offer more positive comments too!
So discouraging, Maya! I know! But I think that we will both get better! Hang in there!!!

B12 shots, which I only started recently, after years of treatment & feeling much better from the Lyme symptoms in general - wow, what a difference they have made in making me feel as if I have my brain back again!

You can go from having brain fog so bad you don't know your name to being a professional writer.
You can go from having neuro symptoms so bad you can't feel anything other than your tongue, to being a professional writer.
All you have to do is never give up, and to keep trying to find what works for you.
Never give up.
The best things I ever used for brain fog, in order:
1. Doug Coil
2. IV Rocephin with tinidazole/flagyl 3. Samento 4. IV Rocephin alone 5. Flagyl/Tinidazole alone
Stay away from artificial sweeteners, too. Limit sugar. Stay away from carpet cleaner of all kinds, fresh paint, moldy areas, fresh varnish, and pesticides as well. Take courses of diflucan, to help with yeast (which makes brain fog worse). Say goodbye to soda, except for rare treat.

What ails each of us may be quite different. I would like to report that I just ended my brain fog! And no, I'm not talking about being stuck in any San Francisco fog bank...
My doctor said I tested hypothyroid and so I should take some thyroid. So I started on Armour thyroid and within a couple days, my head cleared up, and I could track everything clearly again.
I also have my sense of time back, as in I can tell that time is passing. Before this, I would look at a clock and see that time had passed, but not feel it. We only look normal to others, but we ain't!
My doc said that if there's inadequate thyroid, metabolism doesn't happen adequately.
So in answer to your question, no, I don't believe any symptom of ours has to be permanent, if we hit upon the right treatment. It means that you need to do some more exploration of what can treat you.
Have you tested for your thyroid level?

Hi guys thanks for all of your answers I really appreciate it , I hit a really bad stretch for a few weeks and had to stop all meds and felt like I was going down hill.
I have just finally restarted the Mepron and zith and nystatin and am also on some homeopathics for yeast and to help with my blood ph and I think the brain fog and confusion are slowly starting to clear.
I had my thyroid checked a while back but I am going to have it checked again.
I guess I just really want things to get better faster than this disease will allow which sucks, I have only been treating for 6 or so months, the progress is just so slow.
Does anybody find this time of the year is bad for flares?

Parasite treatment and detoxing heavy metals have helped my brain fog the most (I think it's gone). I also upped my B-12 too, even though my levels showed it was high (helped).

Maya- This has been my biggest concern. I feel as if I have brain damage. I can't do antibiotics too much as I messed up my ears from them.
I somehow have to keep a job and it's almost impossible as I literally can't think. I believe that the antimalarials help best with that (for me) but, I have also noticed other things that help.
It never seems to clear. I keep the hope because I know that I have had times of lucidity, but usually if brain cells die they don't regenerate, that's what concerns me.

I was in another world for over 10 years and came out of it with proper treatment. Went from not being able to find my way home some days to earning another degree in chemical engineering. There is always hope.
