Hi everyone. A friend of my recommended the following probiotic to me. It sounds impressive, but I wondered if anyone here has ever had any experience with it.

Dr. Ohhira's Probiotic Professional Formula OMX 12

http://www.crohns.net/Miva/productinfo/whatsinOMX.shtml

I am currently taking 1 -2 capsules of Theralac daily and I am not sure if it's enough to protect against C. Diff.

I am taking Zith and Rifampin.

Let me know your experience if you have tried Dr. Ohhira's probiotic please.

Many thanks.

VSL#3 is excellent. 225billion in 2 capsules! They also have powder packets that you can mix in smoothies or drinks that are higher doses if you would prefer that.

Your doctor can write an RX for VSL#3 DS and some insurance companies will cover the double strength version 900billion per packet! Mine won't cover it because it is considered a supplement.

Many doctors use these for patients with ulcerative colitis and crohn's. These probiotics are actually backed by scientific research.

Here is the website:

You also need to take Florastor or S. boulardii 2 capsules daily to protect against c.diff. This is a friendly/helpful yeast not killed off by antibiotics.

Agree with Sammy...

I take VSL#3 DS presription strength packets and Florastor daily.

I use to buy regular strength VSL3# for $50/bottle, but when GI acted up I would up my dose.

I finally asked my LLMD for a script and sure enough my BCBS convered it for $35 a 30 packets a month.

When GI issue improve I think I'll be able to do only a half packet per day and get more milage.

Shop around for Florastor... prices range from $35 to $49 for 50 capsules.

Ohira's was like drinking water for me.

Theralac is much better. I get even more mileage out of Custom Probiotics.

Also .. you can buy NOW brand saccromyces boulardii very cheap from Swanson's. Same as Florastor.

I could not tolerate the VSL#3DS due to dairy and corn allergy. There is dairy and corn in the powder form - trance amounts but if you are sensitive it might be an issue for you.

I too like the Custom Pro.'s as well as Metragenics Ultra Flora (Dr. H. recommended)and Healthy Trinity 3.

I couldn't take the VSL anymore either due to the dairy.

Ohira's tastes good! That was the only plus I found. I liked chewing the caps. The CFU count is not very high.

prayerworks... if you take Ohira's .. then continue taking Theralac too .. or if you want to save money...buy the Custom Probiotics.
