Topic: Why do I improve so much initially on doxy?

When I was first diagnosed a yr ago my PCP gave me doxy. Within 48 hrs of taking it all my pain was gone. I of course was elated, but 2 days later it was back worse than before.
I now know that was a herx. But here I am a yr later and just tried doxy again for the first time since then and couldn't believe the dramatic improvement in my symptoms so quickly. Of course it did not last.
I have not read here about anyone having a similar experience with meds. Usually it seems people feel worse initially. What would this type of reaction mean?
Does it help to pinpoint what should be treated? Does this mean doxy is a good choice??

I wonder if that could have anything to do with it but maybe not because doesn't even advil or aspirin keep on working?
I've been off doxy for 2 months and have been thinking of going back on to test this.

Well I stopped a week ago due to severe herxing, was on that an rifampin at the time.

Doxy did not do anything for me and I have Ehrlichiosis.
I am on a lot of abx right now and it is making all the difference. I take a lot of supplements to keep my blood work looking good.
Doxy is anti inflammatory....I have a big bottle on hand for my horses. We use it if they have inflammation in their hoofs, called laminitis. Thank God it is cheap. They get 10 tablets twice a day when we use it. LOL.

I have Ehrlichiosis too. Doxy worked wonders after the 2 weeks the ID Dr gave it to me.
However, my symptoms slowly came back. By the time I saw an LLMD, my TBD's were too entrenched for Doxy to make any difference.

I feel fantastic usually for the first few days on most new )or not used in a while) abx. I feel jubilant the first few days of cipro and flagyl. My own theory is either it sends the buggers running... Or it is killing other non spirochete bacteria thta are contributing to your overall yuck. If you have a normal bacterial infection, abx makes you feel better almost immediately... But only with spirochetes is it followed by die off.
Doxy is very anti-inflammatory too though so that could be helping,
I would stick with doxy... Are you high enough doses to kill though?

Kudzu, that is my reaction too....but do those combos seem to stop working after that initial jubilation?

Doxy also hits young filarial worms (parasites).

I had lyme disease for over 45 years before I found out what was wrong with me. The doctor put me on doxy and told me not to expect any improvement for atleast a year. I much better within two months. Nothing I have taken after that as helped me much. I can even go back on doxy again and I can't see it does much for me.
