Good evening,
I did my first subQ B12 injection this afternoon and just noticed that there is now about a quarter size REALLY RED blotch at the injection site. It doesn't seem inflamed nor does it hurt...
is this normal?
Thanks! M

I sometimes will get a bruise but never have gotten an inflamed red area.
What kind of syringe did you use, where did you get the B12 you used and also where did you give yourself the injection?

It was a tiny needle on a pre-filled syringe that came from the compounding pharm. they are supposed to be preservative free and I shot myself in the tummy.

The only thing I can think of is a reaction to the B12? I do my shots in the tummy as it seems to be the least sensitive area.
Or, the compounding pharmacy added something in the compound you reacted to.
The only time I have ever had that Kind of reaction was when I bought a B12 compound years ago that had some other things added (can't remember all) and lidocaine in it.
Is your B12 strength 20 mg per ml? How much B12 do you get in mg in your dose?

not sure of the specifics as I left the syringes at work in the fridge. I'll have to take a closer look at the script tomorrow and if my tum is still red, perhaps call the pharmacist?

I have had that before and I think it is the B12 fluid that pooled there. It was gone the next day for me.

well... it isn't red this morning- so it must have just been some sort of localized reaction.
thanks!

I used to put mine in my thigh (large muscle) and didn't get those problems. Maybe try shooting it there? That's what was recommended to me by the doc for self injection.
