This from a friend at the Massachusetts Yahoo Lyme group:

According to Igenex's criteria, IgG positive bands 31 and 41 mean you are positive for Lyme disease. According to the CDC, you are not.

CDC criteria for Western blot bands ( in IgG, 5 out of the 10 specified bands must be positive):

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00038469.htm

(The Igenex test is what is known as the "expanded" Western Blot. I'd say you're positive, but I'm no expert.)

LYMETOO - DIDN'T YOU HAVE A KEY FOR READING THE IGENEX TEST? (I couldn't find it in my files.)

Thanks guys. Def. Appreciate all your time and willingness to help.

Lymetoo, my neck pain is horrid too....I feel my head is too heavy.....I have read stretching is good, but no heat bc it increases inflamation. Shocker for me, I always thought heat was good [Smile]

Makes sense! I haven't used heat in a long time. I do have some ice packs (they're soft).

My pain is from spurs, stenosis and a bulging disc. Guess I'd better quit typing now!! [Smile]

Many consider tests to be positive if only one Lyme-specific band shows up. IGeneX wants two specific bands and the CDC wants five.

You have lots of specific Lyme bands here - you're definitely positive. You can read their meanings in the explanatory link Poppy listed above.

Now to treat - do you have a good LLMD?

Lymetoo - a 660nm redlight machine might possibly ease pain - like from Light Energy, or Soto Works - I think it's worth a try -

Hi!

Yes, I think positive too. But weird thing is that I never wa sbit (that i recall), no rash and only symptoms the last 2 years is mild diziness, neck pain and stiff ness and fatigue.

Isn't that a bit weird?

Have an LLMD appt (not sure if I am allowed to post his name or initial/state here but i will PM you)on Jan 2 . I am preggo (fortunately/unfortunately) so i think I was a work-in.

I am also going to a regular Inf Dis dr in my town Thursday, but I am not holding my breath. I will show her my Igenex and see what she has to say.

Mya also ask her to run my tests through labcorp and Quest for WB, CD57 and co-inf, just to see what comes out.....it can't hurt right?

Appreciate your input and hope you are doing well! [Smile]

Hi Sareta,

I was misdiagnosed for 9 years. NO rash...Started out with mild to annoying joint pain, fatigue for several years...I was told 'Fibro and Chronic Fatigue'.

Then I had autonomic issues (dizziness, huge blood pressure drops, no tolerance for heat or cold weather, etc.), told I was dysautonomic. Then an avalanche of issues came on board, I was finally diagnosed with Lyme and 2 co-infections after 9 years.

The point is, you can be relatively asymptomatic for years... everybody has some similarities, but most of us experience a WIDE variety of 'joys' from these little buggers ('nice' word).

Don't give up. If you are pregnant, make sure you are seeing a good and encouraging LLMD and an OBGYN that has seen Lyme patients before (if possible).

I may or may not have had this while I was pregnant with our last child, but there were issues with this baby that we didn't have at all with the others. BTW, he's fine and healthy now. [Smile]

Thanks so much EWT.......would it be a good thiing to treat the lyme now, since I don't have many symptoms? I am afraid ithat the antibiotics can "awaken the beast", you know?? I am very fearful of that...

Anybody thoughts? Can treating with mild symptoms be a bad thing and make lyme more active?

Thanks so much....

Sareta, to answer some of your Qs -

Only 20-30% get a rash.

So many never see the tick that bit them. I did - I had an embedded tick in my foot, and was told it was a tick, so I can date every symptom. This is for real!

Dizziness, heck pain, stiffness and fatigue are classic Lyme symptoms.

The ID doc will not help - trust us. You should wait until you see the Lyme doctor Jan 2 to discuss which other tests to run - definitely run tests through a knowledgeable Lyme doc.

And yes, you should treat now, especially as you are pregnant. Treating with antibiotics is ok to do.

Hi Robin,

Thanks so much for all the info.

I agree with treating, but would that "awaken the beast"? Will it make the bacteri be more active? That's my fear...

Thanks again [Smile]

Poppy - Thanks for that link! You're a gem!

Sareta -

Lyme only replicates about every 28-30 days. Antibiotics can only kill the bacteria, while it is in the process of replicating.

Many folks have come to find that they can anticipate a Herxheimer reaction around the same time of the month. A "herx" as we call it, is when dead bacteria back up in your bloodstream because the body can not eliminate this garbage as fast as it should, and is overloaded with toxins. Patients typically suffer an exacerbation of symptoms while this happens.

Drinking lemon water or Alka Seltzer Gold, taking Epsom salt baths (not too hot), or even coffee enemas, can speed the detoxification process and help you feel better.

So if you fear "stirring up" the critters - yes, it will happen, but only when your ABX are doing battle and showing Burgdorferi to the door!
