Happy New Year, Hoping this isn't too personal of a question, but as I was taking my 54 pills (this is supplements, antibiotics, etc.), I was making a my list of what I need to replenish.
How do you all afford your meds and supplements? Mine run about $570-700 per month, plus doc visits, tests, etc.
Husband is medically disabled, and I'm a teacher on FMLA for a few more weeks (and uncertain what life holds then). What I am getting at is that I want to get better and get back my health, but I can't do that at the expense of our family.
How do you guys manage that part of your health?
Not asking for anything but hints and insights on how to do this regimen and still feed and clothe our two kids. My dear hubby says it will all work out and "you just concentrate on getting better."
Hints, advise?

Treatment is definately a strain on the budget. To cut costs of supplements, I purchase most of mine online from vitacost.com
I have switched many of my supplmenets to the Vitacost brand, but not all.
For certain supplements that they do not carry, I have googled the internet to find online sources that are cheaper than the doctor's office. I have used naturalhealthyconcepts.com, pureformulas.com, drvita.com, iherb.com and for Nutramedix herbs I used myherbs.com
Periodically, I ask my doctor which supplements are essential for me to eliminate what I can.
Is your husband able to qualify for Social Security Disability? If so, that is some help, and it would enable him to get on Medicare.
What is FMLA? Are you still able to work? If not, I suggest you consider applying for SSD.
In my experience, Medicare and my supplmenet have been pretty good with covering a high proportion of doctor visits, labs, and medications. I am very fortunate that my LLMD took me on as a Medicare patient, that's extremely helpful.
If you need info on applying for SSD just ask, or do a search on Lymenet for past posts.
Best wishes.

Don't forget to include your supplements when you figure your medical expenses for your taxes. They qualify if your doctor has advised you to take a specific supplement for a specific problem. My LLMD always gives me a copy of her instructions/chart notes. I keep them and the receipts for the supplements.
Of course, it only helps if your expenses are really high -- but when my son and I were both sick we did reach the threshold for two years.
