Maya,

I'm going on 3 years of treatment. I had gained about 40 lbs from tick bite in June 2005 to when I first started to notice joint pain and stiffness in March 2008, then started ABX in March 2010.

Weight loss from bloat was my first big improvement, then some GI issues improved. But other symptoms sprung-up from nowhere and others got worse before they got better, especially when changing protocols and/or doses.

IV rocephin showed the most progress, but that took 10 to 12 months to see significant improvements.

Most here will say treatment will take 3 - 5 years. But your mileage may vary.

be patient... treatment is a roller coaster

I will throw in my two cents on personal experience.

I was late stage when starting treatment January 2010 and the first two months was absolute hell. My LLMD was not kidding when he said I would get sicker before I can become better. The first improvement came after three months and pretty much stayed the same for the next year.

At the 18 month point, I made some major changes in my life and felt better. They were getting rid of the stresses in life. Mine was mainly a divorce which was her idea but benefited me more than ever imagined. The other overhaul was seeing a dietician, exercising and eating much more healthier which had the biggest impact. I lost 50 pounds and felt better.

There were many points where I felt awful but still found the time to do what I loved to do pre Lyme...in my case skydiving was my therapeutic outlet. Everyone needs a hobby or something they love to do. Don't deny yourself and set small goals.

My point is that getting over Lyme is much more than finding the right supplements and meds that work for you. I have met way too many people in my LLMD's waiting room who think that popping pills is enough and they wonder why progress is non existent. Nutrition, exercise, lowering stress, and getting a sound night of sleep was the advice from my LLMD which I incorporated into my lifestyle.

To answer your question, it has been three years of treatment and I feel pretty close to normal again.

Sick for three+ years, in treatment for 2.5 and counting. Two bouts of IV, numerous orals and supplements. 'Have improved a little, but not much. Focusing on heavy detox now.

Good luck!

Well said fatherquido!

It's been a roller coaster for me. Better, then worse, then better, etc. Sort of like watching the stock market graphs jog up and down. At about 18 months I started feeling better. I attribute it mostly to parasite treatment though.

Once I started treating parasites, something just clicked in my body (sort of like an engine turning over--working properly) and I began feeling better. Do whatever you can to treat parasites. It's a long slow haul (I'm only a couple of months into it), but worth it, IMO. I believe they are the cornerstone to this disease.
