Hi everyone...I was just wondering if I should stop weighing myself daily. I see my dr every 2 to 3 weeks now, and I am wondering if I should just leave the weighing to him. I find that my whole day is ruined if I get on the scale and find that I have lost or not gained.
I have been eating a fair amount and felt really proud of myself and thought for sure that I had gained and I got on the scale and NOPE...still 87 lbs. And now I feel like a failure. Does anyone here monitor their weight daily, or do you think I should back off a bit? Thanks in advance. Jess.

Soccermama-man can I relate to the not having an appetite and not noticing that I hadn't eaten. My fiance went off with his uncle to do some work the other day and they came back home and my fiance asked what I ate while he was gone and I was like, "um...nothing?" He was like, "honey its been 7 hours!" I hadn't even noticed.
I literally need to force myself to eat or I never would...I get no bodily cues for hunger, only nausea and pain. UGHHHH.

Weighing yourself daily is pointless. It is far better to weigh yourself no more than once a week, and it is perfectly fine to leave the weighing to your doctor visits every 3 weeks.
You don't need any additional stress on you about your weight - you know you need to gain, and your body does too.
Yeah, I know all about letting 7 hours go by and being oblivious to food the whole time...has happened to me way too often too.
I tend to handle it ok because I have such a ridiculously slow metabolism. But I know you burn through the calories faster than I do, so it is of more concern for you than me.
So, maybe you should set an alarm to ring every 4 hours to remind you to at least consider drinking a protein shake or something like that so you don't go so long without putting any calories in?
And then if you are too nauseated when the timer rings, you can re-set the timer for another hour or so and keep trying to find a time when you feel at least well enough to try to eat something?
Just an idea...

Razzle-I think you are right about not weighing myself daily. It really does make me feel like a failure, and I know thats a silly and reductive way of thinking, but it does. I will just let my dr weigh me from now on.
And the timer idea is a GREAT ONE! I def need a reminder to force myself to eat. When Jeremy (my fiance) is around it is easy to remember because he will gently but firmly remind me "honey ,food time-you must try" but if I am left to my own devices it is all too easy to forget.

jessica~ are you nauseated from meds? the illness? or what?
You don't want to get down on yourself because that won't help the situation. Razzle's idea to set an alarm to eat is a good one. I would suggest every 2 hours though instead of every 4.
What are you able to eat? You definitely need to aim for high calorie, nutrient dense foods.
Soccermama~ what is causing your weight loss?

Ginger root capsules helped with the nausea. I didn't become underweight. The opposite happened. I gained 60 pounds with lyme. Hang in there. I am at a normal weight now.
I don't own a scale. If you are feeling bad about it I agree with Razzle. Don't torture yourself.

Thanks Heather-yeah I didn't weigh myself today and I feel much better for it. My fiance and I gave my scale to my neighbor HAHA...she appreciated it, and I am glad to be rid of it . Jess

Timaca, not sure what caused the weight loss. I think that parasites are in play. Just finished a stool sample not sure what will show.
My gastrointestinal tract has problems. My PCP thinks I have vasculitis but tests do not show anything.
The remedy that he would like to try is steroids but he knows it is counterindicated if I am fighting an active infection.

Timaca, I am nauseated from the illness itself and the meds also increase my gastrointestinal distress. I eat a vegan diet and that helps me keep down food. I am trying to eat high calorie foods now, esp peanut butter and hummus. Thanks. jess

Soccermama~ Have you considered that food intolerance could be a player in your GI problems? It is worth considering....
Jess~ I'm glad you are trying some higher calorie foods. Perhaps you could also add (for calories sake) bread dipped in olive oil, almond butter smeared on bananas and avocados.
