Hi everyone...I have had 3 fairly significant panic attacks since beginning IV treatment. I am not an anxious person by nature, so this just feels so out of character. I start to feel this weird "revving up" and then I start to having racing thoughts and BOOM I will feel like I cannot breathe and I will shake and get sweaty.

The episodes last anywhere for 5 to 20 minutes and then they are gone. I do not wanna take antidepressants-I am adamantly against them, and I find they do more harm than good (just my personal opinion).

Could panic attacks and akind of diffuse, generalized anxiety be part of a herx? Whats strange is that I am completely and utterly exhausted, with hardly any energy until one of these attacks hits. Then I am vibrating with anxiety and once the attack is over, I am wrung out once again.

Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance. jess

IMHO, can DEF. be a herx (had strong attacks during initial times of treatment).

If I was you, I would not take AD either but would try to get some "emergency pill" such as Xanax or Tavor prescribed, only for you to know that there is a remedy if it becomes to overwhelming or you find yourself in situations where you have to function.

Kern, I do have Valium available (I usually take it if my vertigo becomes unbearable) so that is a possibility for when this really hits. Thanks . Jess

I think part of the anxiety is that the body is going through so much. I had panic attacks also. along with lots of joint pain and muscle spasms. My Doctor prescribed 10 mg flexeril, muscle relaxer. It helped immensely. Took the edge off all of it and I was able to sleep.

Thanks Heather...your theory is what my fiance believes too. Jer told me a little while ago after I posted this , "honey your body is battling so many infections at once and on so many fronts, AND you are so thin right now and are on really strong medicine. You need to see its your body doing a freak out cuz its overwhelmed."

I appreciate the post. I will ask my dr about the flexeril if this continues. Thanks so much. Jess

Yes, anxiety and panic attacks can be part of a herx.
The reason for this is low magnesium.

Are you supplementing magnesium?
You may need to increase your dose.

Also, eat foods high in magnesium.
Dark chocolate
Almonds, almond butter
Beans, baked beans, refried beans, bean soup, rice and beans, bean burritoes.

Thanks so much for the magnesium info Carol (and for giving me an excuse to eat dark chocolate [Wink] ). I appreciate it a lot. Jess.
