Hi everyone. Hope you're all hanging in ok. I have discovered something strange in year 3 of tx, and I wanted to know if any of you pros out there could shed some light.

I have babesia. I do not know which strain. I tested pos through the Igenex fish. That was enough for the insurance co, so I didnt spend any more $ on the tests.
When I first started suffering a few years back, I had INCREDIBLE dizziness, major chills, odd thoughts, confusion, brain fog, inability to recall words for certain things like "fork" and what not. These were the symptoms that prompted me to go to the Doc. Which is when I tested pos for Lyme.
I bounced from a few docs, and finally made it to someone who put me on IV Rocephin. Then, IM shots, (which are so much fun!) My symptoms seemed to get worse with every shot, Which I assume were herxes.
One weekend after a shot that made me pretty woozy, I descended into a high grade fever, was having a hard time breathing, was sweating profusely (like pouring sweat) I felt like I was burning alive one second, and freezing the next. I called the ambulance, and went to the hospital, where no one could help me.

At the time, I figured it was Lyme disease trying to kill me, looking back, I'm guessing that was a babs herx. BTW I was taking those shots w/ Plaquenil.

This was the only time anything like that happened, after that, it was a lot of miserable neuro symptoms, Bart sx, Lyme sx, and the classic babesia herxes, (chills, aches, woozy, dizzy, confusion - NO NIGHT SWEATS - NO SORE THROAT)

Recently, I've been taking a lot of abx, along with Crypto, which is really working on the babs. The chills have dissipated to the point where they're almost gone. The dizziness has changed. I don't know how else to describe it. Before, it was the "floaty feeling". Now it's more like fleeting dizziness that comes and goes.

*BUT* - Now I have profuse night sweats. this has been every night for almost a month. A sore throat that comes and goes throughout the day. Its very sore. Feels like strep. (obviously it isn't) I also get dull aching in my right upper arm, which is a bit scary.

Along with some nagging neuro stuff that won't seem to go away, these are my remaining sx. Has this happened to any of you? Have you had symptoms for two years, and all of the sudden it feels like you have a different bug altogether?

My guess has been multiple strains of babs. But why would one be dormant and surface when another dies? or is it one strain that is just going through the phases of being killed off?

Should I change babesia tx? I've come pretty far, I'd hate to switch now, especially bc I feel pretty decent for the most part.

What do you all think?

I don't know but I have been doing much better lately too, and also strangely have been having increased night sweats at the same time. This is after getting past the worst of my babs as well.

I do know that I have babesia duncani, from a positive LabCorp test.

I wasn't sure what to make of the increased night sweats either - kind of assumed some kind of herx, but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I'm on crypto as well, which is interesting.

Hi lymeboy. The same thing happened to me last month. Babesia went dormant (as well as Borrelia, Bartonella and Mycoplasma before), but few weeks later I started to have weird symptoms, which I have never had before: fevers, soar throat, profuse night sweats and strong muscle pains. I couldn't understand, because my energetic tests showed that all co-infections were dormant.

It took me a week to figure things out. It is Erlichia that surfaced. That was a big news to me. I never even thought that I have Erlichia, so it didn't come to my mind to even test for it. When finally tested it came strong positive and acute.

You know the rule of Lyme disease, when one infection subsides, another one comes to the surface. I think it is not Babesia that is causing those symptoms in our case, but rather Erlichia/Anaplasma.

I test and treat energetically, that's why it kind of easier for me to figure things out. But if you don't , it is hard to tell based just on symptoms. I totally understand, that was me just a 10 months ago. I was on abx for 2.5 years, , but was still feeling cr..y. Every time that I would start feeling better, few weeks later new symptoms would reappear, and then good luck to try figuring what's causing it... That's when I decided to learn to test energetically.

Have you ever taken doxy or mino? This is the drug of choice for Erlichia. Do you have anybody in your area who can test energetically?

So weird- my night sweats are back- I started IV clindy and rifampin.

I also have a bone/muscle pain in my upper arm. The dizzy stuff has gone away. I've treated babs with several rounds of malarone/mepron. Now I'm wondering if it is ehrlichia- I read rifampin can hit ehrlichia!

Yes, Rifampin is also used to treat stubborn Erlichia cases. I forgot to mention that I also was VERY nauseous and had MAJOR gastro disturbances on top of the symptoms I have already listed.

OMG this is me too!

I'm nearing the end of year four of treatment. I tested positive for B.microti thru Igenex in 2008.

I've done so much Babs' treatment it is absurd. Still taking Mepron, Malarone, Zith, Flagyl, Art, and Cryptolepsis.

I have never had night sweats with my illness. Now, I sweat a lake every single night!

I've rarely experienced dizziness, until recently. Like you describe, it is mild and intermittent.

Minor daytime chills, brain fog, poor word recall, evening low grade fevers are still issues. Everything worse after eating too.

I still have many symptoms with herxing, but I also have stretches of symptom-free.

My night sweats are slowly improving. I guess I'm more of a pond than a lake now.

If I skip a med dose due to nausea or something, I am worse the next day, with increased sweating. That is telling, cuz when antimicribial blood levels drop, these suckers multiply.

I have taken TONS of Mino and Doxy. But Ehrlichia could still be a player. Or Protomyxzoa Rheum. Have not tested for it.

But since I am still improving, I think I will stay the course.

I would like to try Coartem next round.

My thought on the sweating is that either my immune system is coming back and actually fighting this d*mn bug (my Babs definitely reproduces on a 24-hr cycle) or that other populations are reduced so more typical Babs' symptoms are showing. Those two possibilities could certainly go together.

Or, it could be another bug. So annoying.

Beths - I owe you a phone call. Since leaving my job, I have become the poster child for unreliability!! [Razz]

I think it's exactly what you said: "one strain that is just going through the phases of being killed off."

My babs symptoms change monthly. Although they have gotten so much better, the night sweats, hot flashes and occasional fleeting dizziness came back a few weeks ago. But then so did lyme when I started working on dental stuff. Perhaps they work in unison. I think the babs is just fighting to survive (hopefully on its last leg).

Your shoulder pain could be lyme (that's what it is for me). I've also had a sore throat and some low grade fevers the past few days. I think it's from fighting off a cold though (sneezing).

As far as neuro goes, I think about 90% of my neuro was babs. I recently had some fillings removed and some neuro came back for a few days (gone now).

Lymeboy, are you working on parasites yet? That has really improved my babs. I am currently on parasite meds. Now the dizziness is gone, fewer hot flashes and night sweats. I also have fewer episodes of air hunger too.

Same here with sore throats. More severe, but don't last long.

Catgirl - I hope you are right and this is Babs' last breath! I have also been working on parasites, with good results.

Interesting... This is great stuff.

- To answer you questions, no I haven't gone after Parasites yet. This could be coming down the pipe for me next.

- I've never taken Mino, doxy when it all first started for the standard 6 weeks or whatever. After that I saw a lot of docs, none of whom were any good. I'll talk over Mino w/ my LLMD. Thanks for the suggestion. btw - does Mino penetrate the BBB?

- My pain is not a shoulder pain, more of a muscle ache. It feels like I got kicked in the arm with a steel toe boot. The ache comes and goes, but stays for a while, and is there more often than not. It isn't a tendon pain, as I'm taking Levaquin. At first I thought it was a heart attack. very scary. but it's just an annoying painful ache.

- Beths, did you clear out your mailbox?

- My sore throats seem to last all day, and feel especially stingy when I eat salty food.
