The back of my ankle hurts and it is hard walking down stairs. I probably did something at the gym. Are there any herbal salves or anything else that would speed healing?

Assuming you've already ruled out the need for medical care? It's a good idea to at least call your doctor's office if you have any questions.

In a week or so, when you might be able to put pressure on it, ULTRASOUND by a PT can help.

Not sure when this happened (the gymn could have been an hour or a week ago) . . . if not too much time has passed: ICE.

ARNICA Homeopathic, sublingually

AND topically. It's in Trauheel ointment.

If you don't have these, have a friend fetch for you. STAY OFF your feet. Nothing is as important as STAYING OFF OF IT.

Use a CANE when you have to get to the restroom, to help keep some pressure off of it.

Of course, only shoes with a good arch support that are flat for the next couple weeks (well, really best for life, too).

Be very careful to not even stretch until you feel it's able to do so.

It's important to be absolutely assertive with your approach so that this does not drag out for months and months - as it often can for those with lyme - and has for me. I have learned by my mistakes.

I've had twisted ankles that took YEARS to heal. Likely my own ignorance played a part but it's important to know that lyme can make healing much more difficult so protection during healing is key.

So, I offer:

ANKLE BRACE - from any pharmacy. Make sure whoever gets this for you is careful in their selection for your size. Get large enough to wear a thin COTTON sock underneath it.

It's really important to use this brace NOW, anytime you step on it, even if you also use a cane or crutches to take off some pressure.

SLEEP WITH THE BRACE ON

Still, STAY OFF THE FOOT as much as possible. Can you borrow a set of crutches for a couple days? Some pharmacies may rent them.

Never use just one, always two, with proper instruction. Really, I thought I knew how. I did not.

Most natural foods markets carry these or similar brands.

BIRKENSTOCKS are the very best shoe / sandal to support your feet while that ankle heals (once you are able to put any weight on it).

Seriously, they may seem clunky but they are the best for the whole body allignment. The best house "slippers" and the best shoe for around the house, too. As for going out, best to have a closed back style for safety.

Note: Birkenstock has allowed another good company to use the official Birkenstock FOOTBED but the top is very different, often not leather at all as all Birkenstocks are (usually). Be sure of what you are getting.

These others are all well and good, just different kind of materials (synthetic) used for the uppers.

You can call someone in your town and see if they could mail to you. This keeps the money in your community and should afford you more personalized care.

Ask if they might have a discontinued sytle or any sale.

DMSO

It takes the swelling down and that speeds up healing.

So glad Dan added that. I had forgotten all about it. To help you find your way with this, start with the very top source.

If you order, they are very close to you, too (just a couple hops & a skip from Portland, OR to your door).

Still, you might call & ask if there is a vendor in Spokane where someone could buy this for you today and bring it over. Perhaps, one of the naturopathic or acupunturists' offices carry this.

Of course, there are many other brands out there and detail here can help guide an educated selection. It's just good to go right to the top when you can. Ordering from this site (with reasonable prices) also supports those who put in the long hours studying it.

Do you mean the achilles tendon area?
This picture shows the location:

.
This might hurt if you injured it or if you have tendonitis.

Are you on any medications?
Cipro and some other antibiotics can cause tendonitis.

The Achilles Tendon is what I used it for. I had some new, stiff, work shoes that kept banging on the tendon. It would not heal even though I quit wearing the shoes.

I had the DMSO already. I bought it from Jacobs Labs. The 99% pure stuff. I rubbed it on the tendon two times. It healed on a few days.

Gave some to my cousin for a strained shoulder. Same result.

Good luck.

Dan

After looking at Carol's graphic, I'd say the injury is probably an Achilles tendon. It is not a bad injury but I want it gone. I'm not on any meds right now and I am pretty sure I stepped wrong on the treadmill to cause the problem.

Iherb sent me a sample of Traumeel so that is where I will start. Did not know about DMSO.

Thanks for the tips.

Usually the problem is inflammation. My doc said to take high doses of ibuprofen for a few days to get inflammation down . I took 4 ibuprofen twice a day for 4 days . It helped !

Read glowing reviews of : serra peptase enzyme for arthritis or injury , and also glucosamine / chondroitin for rebuilding cartilage and also muscous membranes in urinary tract , lungs- entire body .

I would start out by taking ibuprofen ( heavy ) and also BROMELAIN , which is cheap . Then consider the other two items and review them at iherb .

Be very careful with ibuprofen as it constricts the blood vessels and can stress or damage kidney function. Even at a normal dose, it has been known to contribute to kidney failure.

Enzymes are much safer. DMSO is much safer. Resting the injury is essential.

. . . Acute Kidney Failure

Some patient case reports have attributed incidents of sudden-onset acute kidney failure to the use of over-the-counter painkillers, including aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium. . . .

Thanks for the info, Carol. This is the only brand of DMSO that Azure Standard carries and it is about $5 cheaper for the 16 ounce bottle. That is, after shipping charges added by dmsouse.com site.

Hope there is a bit of improvement today.

As this holiday weekend approaches, remember no fancy smanshy high heels or all night club dancing tonight, eh?

Vitamin C is also important for healing any injury.

And Epsom Salt soaks can also help with inflammation if you don't have access to DMSO.
