Anyone else having trouble with their septic tank due to long-term antibiotics?
My landlord had our tank pumped out this past week, and we were told there was basically no evidence of the normal bacterial activity in the septic tank and things were not breaking down correctly.
We were told also that this may cause failure of the septic system and drain field.
Furthermore, it is against the law where I live to put septic system additives down the drain without written approval. I've contacted the state department of wastewater management and asked them for help.
But in the meantime, what can I do? I can't function off the abx, and don't have the money to move to where there is a sewer instead of a septic tank.
Thanks for any suggestions...

Can you just put the enzymes in there anyway?
Then throw the box out elsewhere, so they don't know.

I don't understand why they'd have a problem with enzymes.
We were told to put beneficial bacteria down our septic every month while on abx (we forget though).
Wow, I didn't know a packet of yeast would work--that's great! Or you could pour a few bottles of kombucha down it too.

I hate to think I'd have to throw my kombucha down the toilet! Oh dear, I think I'm asking for it here...

No, yeast is bad for septic tanks. It keeps things agitated, which prevents settling. The septic tank relies on settling to do it's job...
And no, I'm not doing something illegal...this property has already been under too much scrutiny (permitting issues a few years ago, thx to unscrupulous contractors) by the county...not going to invite further trouble.
