I was curious if in the last few years anyone got Lasik surgery after becoming infected with Lyme?

My eye doc who is very understanding about my Lyme situation. After a year+ Rx eye drops to help produce tears and no eye infections (which used to be every other month b/c of dryness) she said she thought that I was a very good candidate since my dryness cleared up and I've have to stay on the Rx drops for a while after surgery since I have a previous dry history. The only thing she was unsure of was any complications due to Lyme.

I told my LLMD I was pushing really hard to do get the surgery this year and he was a little put off by the idea. He wasn't worried that my health or Lyme would be a problem so much as he didn't like the idea of Lasik itself (his words, not mine). The only concern he had was my dry eyes. If he told me absolutely not, I'd certainly be disappointed but I wouldn't jeopardize my health if he thought I was really going to do damage.

This is something I've really wanted to do for a long time now and I feel like I finally can because my doctors feel I'm much healthier now. half my problem is that my vision is so bad that I having glasses on makes a little dizzy sometimes (can't see out of my periphery). And putting contacts in my eyes only increases the risk of dryness and infection.

I haven't been to the surgeon yet for a consult because I wanted to talk with my LLMD first. He suggested putting out on the message boards, so here I am. I wanted to see if anyone has anyone has been in my position and what they did or didn't do, any kind of side effects they had, etc.

Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't have any type of elective surgery while still undergoing treatment for lyme. To me, there would be too much risk of complications due to my body not being in optimal health. Obviously, it is a personal decision. Best of luck weighing the pros and cons.

I had Lasik done before I knew I had Lyme. I did not have any complications. That was 10 years ago.

My husband had to have cataract surgery (did not know he had Lyme) and they also did some Lasik to correct the rest of his vision. He already had floaters at that time and they continued after the surgery. Other than that, no problems from the lasik.
