i have a friend who has a genetic defect of the CYP450 enzyme. its a very hardcore disorder. i think its hard to use any antibiotics with this.
what can you take when you have this disorder? it also interacts with artemisinin and other herbs.

Is there a test that can tell if you have this disorder?
I can't tolerate many meds and Art makes me feel like I'm dying.

Read about genetic methylation "polymorphisms" (ie, defects). There are several active topics right now which are discussing this subject. In fact, I posted a response to someone else just a few minutes ago. Here's a link to that topic. (Scroll down to find my posts under that topic.)
Also, you can do a search of my other recent posts about it by clicking on the icon for my profile at the top of this message. It will bring up my profile page, and then you will have to click again to search for my recent posts.
I've been posting a lot about methylation defects recently because I've been studying this subject intensely since I think it might help a couple of members of my extended family. That's why you might like to look at some of these other topics where I've been posting in order to get a variety of other viewpoints on this subject.

"In Phase I detoxification, enzymes, known collectively as the cytochrome P-450 system, use oxygen to modify toxic compounds, drugs, or steroid hormones. Many toxins must undergo Phase II detoxification after a reactive site has been formed. Because there are many different toxic compounds the body might encounter, there are many variants of Phase I enzymes." quote from Genova Diagnostics
If you click on the links below it will take you to the website of the lab that determined my PY450 issues and my phase 2 detoxification issues as well. The second link gives you a look at what the test results will look like when they come.
I have MANY different detox pathway problems on phase 1 and phase 2. You are also given access to lists of meds and chemicals that you should avoid because they will create problems for you.
I also have Hetero MTHFR 1298 and 677. Which also impair my ability to detox. With supplements for each of these and knowledge of which meds(and med combos) etc to avoid for py450 phase 1 and phase 2 pathway problems I am much better able to treat my lyme and co infections.

Indica440 - In response to your question about what supplements and meds to take/avoid. This is a very complicated question as it is different for each person depending on their PY450 pathway issues and their Methylation differences.
Mine are all over the place. There are two links that may help on the road to making decisions based on your test results.
MTHFR also gets very complex. A site that explains it clearly is form Dr. J, the link is below. Toward the middle he discusses supplements that can help but these depend on you MTHFR mutations. Toward the bottom is a list of drugs to definitely avoid. https://sites.google.com/site/drjoneskids/mthfr

I re-read your first post and if your friend with PY450 issues is treating babesia or malaria and looking at using Arteminisin this research paper may help.
