Mine is extremely low as well. I was actually so happy when they discovered this, thinking it was the magic bullet. Unfortunately treating it did not change things for me. Low vit d levels are very common for many including those without Lyme. Did your doctor recommend a high dose once a week supplement, usually a prescription to boost you up? This is what mine did.

Although my levels were no lower than 32 when I started supplementing, I use Vitcost D3 mini gels and take 10,000 IU a day. My level is now 68.

Some physicians prefer dosing at 50,000 IU once a week, but mine came up quite a bit by dosing on a daily basis.

Mine were also low, I am taking 10,000 IU daily too.

I just started 2 weeks ago, so too soon to tell any difference yet.

D3 is the best form. It is best absorbed with fat.

Some say the gelatin capsules are good. Others say the dry form is better.

If you supplement with the dry form, then you do not have to worry if the oils are fresh.

DD is taking D3 in a capsule with powder. We retest in May, so I will not know if her levels rise until then.

I have been researching online for low Vitamin D symptoms. I am amazed what Low levels may cause in some people.

Good luck

My vit D level was 6 a few years back. It caused secondary Hyperparathyroidism- which poses a whole host of other problems which can be quite serious.
I was prescribed the prescription of Vit-D which is 50,000 IU PER PILL. After 1 pill- I had an awful reaction. My left eye was almost swollen shut and stayed that way for weeks, along with one-sided facial numbness.
I will never take that again.
I have SLOWLY been able to get my levels up to around 30, by taking Carlson Brand Vit-D3 (least amount of preservatives, etc)...but it has taken a few years.

I used to have low Vit D and was also prescribed the 50,000 IU pill.

I then learned about Biotech Vitamin D3, 50,000 IU's and take it once or twice a week. My D level is up to 80 which is well within the high, normal range.

The one supplement that makes me feel instantly better, especially if I'm having low energy (like I was today) is D3 - I love it!

Mine was in the low 20's last year. This year it's too high, around 100. I took lots of D3 and my levels recovered nicely.

Increasing D3 helped my PMS symptoms more than anything.

As stated aboveyou have to take it with fat. Or a fish oil capsule at the very least.

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin so will not be absorbed without it.

Andsit in the sun for a few minutes each day with no sunscreen on.

You probably won't feel different from the vitamin but your immune
system function will improve helping you to heal from the tick borne infections. Yay!

My level was 7 once. Since yours is so low, you are likely better off with a prescription Vitamin D.

Have you talked with your doctor about this?

Yeah, my Vit. D level is around 9 or so, too. But when I take Vitamin D3 supplements, I cannot sleep at all for days and days. Vit. D2 supplements do not do anything to improve my Vit. D level.

I think I have trouble processing Vitamin D (Vit. D Receptor mutations may explain why, though I'm not sure), so it builds up to toxic levels even with a small dose supplement.

Through experimentation, I can take 2000IU of an oil-based liquid Vitamin D3 on my skin and still be ok with sleep. But that's not enough to raise the blood level of Vit. D.

I was told the body uses 4000-6000IU every day, so to increase blood levels, it requires at least 10,000IU daily (or 50,000 weekly).

you really need to learn as much as you can about vitamin d as you cant just take huge amounts because too much is just as bad as too little here are some good videos on the need for vit d at a upper steady level

My endocrinologist is one of the top experts specializing in osteoporosis and bone health.

He recommends keeping Vit D levels close to 60. Anything above is too much, he had me stop supplementing to get back into the desired range.

Now I take a maintenance dose of 1,000 IU vit D3 per day. This keeps my levels between 50-60.

He says that surfers in Hawaii do not produce more than 50-60 on their own from being in the sun all day every day without vit supplementation.

I understand that some people take higher levels to treat autoimmune conditions, that would make sense. If you are wanting to take it for general health/bone health, you might want to keep with the lower doses of D3 and watch your blood work.

I think that most of us with Lyme have Low D.

I do know that those in northern states often don't get the required amount of sunshine and even healthy people have low D.

I have to go in tomorrow to get my levels checked. I had one heck of a time keeping Vitamin D down. It made me so sick. So I gave up. I would not recommend that and I'll see how I do tomorrow with the blood work.

mine was at 11 just a bit ago. my llmd said 5000 a day--- but my pcp said 3000. 5000 made me feel worse. 3000 works well. I went up and then came back down. I rotate between dry (lanolin sourced liquid (counrylife vegan) and chewables(fish sources) because I wondered if the lanolin sourced was causing more inflammation since I have wool allergies. Since rotating I have felt much better being on d3, but it could just be cause it has started to work.

take it with you evening meal (with some fat) and it will help you sleep.

I use Carlson drops. I take 2000-4000 IU per day for maintenance and mine is in the 60 range. I took more than that per day to get it up to that range.

I also try to get natural sunshine when I can in the warmer months in addition to the drops.
