I have tested positive for mycoplasma IGG and IGM for the past 6 years.

Aggressive treatment has brought down the levels somewhat, but still not to within the 'normal' range.

I have read in recent times that not all mycoplasma species can be hit by the same abx.

What specific tests do I need to be able to ascertain what specific species I'm infected with? (eg mycoplasma pneumoniae, mycoplasma fermentans, etc).

A general mycoplasma antibody test is somewhat vague...

I plan on discussing this at length on my next trip to my LLMD.

The one time I had a mycoplasma test run, it indicated what species it was. Are you sure your test did not indicate it somewhere?

Nope, just a general IGG and IGM to mycoplasma. Says nowhere on it exactly what type of mycoplasma.

I have heard in the past that there is a more specific test that can differentiate between specific species. Maybe somebody can help me out with specifics on what these test(s) are called.

I'd like to get a handle on what type of test I should be asking for when I see my doc next time.

I believe mine was through a standard lab such as Quest or Labcorp. I had an IgG and IgM of the different species.

Test's 332, 301, 129, 130, 335 and 336 are what you will need from this lab.

I have personal experience with what you are describing. I was testing positive thru antibody tests for m.pneumoniae and was being treated with Zithromax and Biaxin with no success.

I ended up actually being infected with m.fermentans which was diagnosed with the help of these PCR tests. The antibody test are not species specific (they cross react) but the PCR tests are.

Once I was switched over to florquinlones which are very effective against m.fermenatans I very slowly improved.
