I am diagnosed with bartonella and Lyme's disease. Last month my family physician put me on levaquin for a sinus infection. She gave me a months worth. I am almost finished the prescription and have had a lot of eye pain, burning and light sensitivity. I also have foot pain again, which I haven't had in awhile. Is this a side effect from the medication or could it be a bartonella herx? Thanks.

Hi-when I am herxing from bart, I get dry, itchy eyes. Even if the med isn't levaquin. And my foot pain is more pronounced. Just my experience-I only lasted a few days on levaquin so can't comment on the side effects part.

That's a Herx. Not really a common side effect of Levaquin, but def sounds like Bart and Lyme are coming out of hiding. Is your foot pain by your achilles? Or is it on the sole?

Thanks for your replies. Droid, it starts at my heel and then goes up to my Achilles. Do you have Bartonella? What do you take?

Yes I have bart. Levaquin was great for it. But I needed a lot longer than a months worth. I'd keep an eye on the achilles because lev can rupture it in some cases.

It's a fine line between treating and creating more probs. I think it sounds like your herxing but if the achilles gets very painful, I'd call doc.

It is recommended to take a lot of magnesium while on Levaquin- away from it-

When I was on Levaquin (1x a day, in the a.m.) I would force myself to take a 3-4 cup Epsom salt bath every single night-

I was very worried about possible tendon rupture. I think by doing this, and extra vitamin C, helped and I made out okay.

Lyme positive PCR blood, and
positive Bartonella henselae Igenex, 2011.
low positive Fry biofilm test, 2012.
Update 7/16- After extensive treatments,
doing okay!
