Hello,

Last week I developed a dry itchy patch on my arm. Not a big deal as I get dry skin. This past weekend I had flu like symptoms, slight fever, chills, cough, congestion, headache. My work has been overrun with flu the past month. A hive type rash started two days later on my other arm.

After being out of work all week I went to the doctor today and was told it's Lyme but she was confused because its very rare this time of year.

The original dry patch can almost seem like the bulls eye only its slight red in the center and 'angry' skin around it. I scratched the heck out of it last week. It does not hurt and mostly itches in the shower.

I can send I picture of it for clarification.

Today I started Doxy (2x21)

The weather has been cold / freezing and I haven't been in the woods in a very long time. I desperately want a second opinion by a specialist.

I guess it was caught in stage 1 (2 weeks)and needless to say I am freaked out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Evan

You can get Lyme disease at ANY time during the year, especially in MA!!

You need 200mg of Doxy twice a day for more than 21 days. I would personally want 6 wks worth. You do NOT want to become chronic.

You also need to be vigilant about continuing treatment and finding a doctor who knows about treating Lyme. Many people get more than one infection from a tick bite.

Some require different medications.

Welcome! We are glad you found us!! [Smile]

You can have lyme and it doesn't become evident until your body has a challenge like illness. If it is a bulls eye, trust you diagnosing doc and start treatment right away. This is not something you want to try and make your body handle--like toughing it out. Lyme has evolved many ways to evade your body's immunities and easily gets to the chronic stage. Take care of bizness now and get on a good antibiotic. Ask on the boards here for a good treating lyme literate medical doctor. This is important. Let us know how you do.

When i had a bulls eye rash I was only 19 yrs old and had no clue about Lyme. I had no symptoms until I was 26 yrs old.

It can be dorment for many yrs. It took 4 yrs to get diagnosed. Now I'm finally on right path but it's in the chronic stage.

I'm not a Dr but i personally would treat it now for a minimum of 6 months because you do not want this disease to get out of control.
