Topic: We really need a water filtration system, badly. Pls help with best suggestions.

I've been waffling back and forth because I cannot make a decision.
We have CHLORAMINE in our water (horrible nasty stuff), so basic filtration will not work. Chlorine would be so much easier to deal with. (Chloramine is a big issue, just google 'Erin Brochovich chloramine').
What would be the best RO system? I'm guessing a 5-stage system, but what makes one brand better than the next?
Also, we would want a re-mineralization attachment so we are not drinking acidic water void of nutrients.
I don't want to keep drinking water from plastic bottles!
We are not ready to make an investment on a whole house system. I hate showering in this stuff, but at least for now I want something for my kitchen sink.

The closer the filtration system is to the sink the safer it is. Whole house fltration systems allow bacteria to grow in the pipes and they get shed into the water making it dangerous.

Yes, hikers, I've heard that. That's why we're going to keep it simple for now. We're looking for an under-the-sink unit.

I have a Travel Berkey and I like it a lot. The downside is that replacting the filters is expensive.

I've heard the name Berkey, but I don't think it will eliminate chloramine. It is scary stuff....it does not evaporate out, you cannot boil it out or distill it out. From what I understand, the only thing that may work is a 5-stage reverse osmosis system. Even then, it may not be guaranteed.
Anyone else familiar with a good quality brand they can recommend? It's hard to tell the difference.

WARNING I purchased a under the sink reverse osmosis filter under 5 stage $200. Bought it from Cosco. Water was wonderful then
2 big floods in my kitchen a nightmare.
It from Watts Premier. I am also looking for one.

We use the Zero Water filter - it looks like the Brita but filters out a lot more. I'd eventually like to get a reverse osmosis one but this is good to use in the interim so thought i'd mention it to you as well.
Please post what you end up finding out. In our case, our water has hexavalent chromium *sp) in it and this is the only filter we could find that filters that out so we're just sticking w/ it for now.
