Lymetoo is definitely right on Doxy. Out of all the meds I had been on, that is the one that I was told to pay very close attention to the expiration date.

I'm sure there are others this applies to, but that is the only one I was definitely warned of.

I can't comment on your other two, even though I had been on both. I do know I didn't get the big ole flag warning with them, but that doesn't mean I would tell you to do it.

With that said, I know I have taken meds past expiration and usually if you have a kind pharmacist, they will give you the low down. They don't tell you that you can still take it per se.

But some they told me just may not be as potent as when they were fresh, but that there was nothing in them that would go back in a toxic way.

Do avoid Doxy after expiration. We as lyme patients suffer enough without tagging that on top of our problems in life. Feel better.

Doxy is the only antibiotic that I do not keep after the expiration date. The others I hold onto.

Call your pharmacist on the others.

Toss it.
O.K. to use if stored in a "cool, dry place" (or refrigerated) for a few months... OR SO, but it then starts to break down.

Some of the resulting 'byproducts' are mildly toxic & tough on the liver.

I've taken expired doxy. I've taken a lot of expired meds. This board is actually the first time I ever heard anyone say not to take it. So I did a google search and it looks like it was an issue in the past.

Just posting this in case you wanna read through it.

Called pharmacist and asked..He said in general that it depends on original container.

That the ones on his self have an expiration date of 2016.

Even though his bottles going out will have a 1 year date as do most scripts.

It is the one I've been told could be toxic after expiration, it's a matter of knowing real date, or toss to be safe......
