I am having this awful pressure and throbbing pain in my lower back on both sides. I was thinking it was coming from my SI joint. But now I'm wondering if it could be my kidneys.

I changed my diet and have been consuming a ton of spinach as well as an increase in sea salt.It looks like spinach and salt can lead to kidney stones. [confused]

Too bad it's Friday but if still not yet the dinner hour in your time zone, call your doctor. If it gets worse, go to Urgent Care.

Usually, if a kidney stone, it would not be on both sides at the same time. Sea salt is not as hard on kidneys as regular salt but still, that can be serving related. Not sure how much you consumed.

Drink a reasonably generous amount of water but too much can be stressful to kidneys, too as it can be too much of a flood. Sipping consistently better than drinking a full glass at one time.

The kind of ox. acid in spinach might be able to be balanced with other foods / herbs.

Topic: kidney pain

STONEBREAKER has helped me tremendously with such pain that did seem very classic to that of a kidney stone. Kept me out of the ER (though do go if you need to).

I remember asking you if you might have a bladder infection. Remember, that can go straight to the kidneys.

Go get a urine test ASAP!

As for kidney stones... it is possible .. but take care of the infection possibility right away!

You need to know if the problem is in the kidneys before you start treating it.

Here is the kidney location.

.
Here is the location of the sacroiliac joints.

When I had kidney stones , they hurt lower in the back , between the sacroiliac joints and my side of my body. Right in the center, above each buttocks, but up higher than buttocks , at level of sacroiliac joint. It hurt worse, if I remember on right side, but did hurt on left as well in same area.
I do have narrowing of right ureter.
My husband had kid. stones and his hurt across his abd. under rib cage on right side and he had an enlarged kidney from it.

Carol great diagrams. My pain is in the location of the sacroiliac joints as well as the kidneys and L 4. So I think it may be tough to figure out what is the cause.... I feel a little better this am. I wonder if there is a connection to the spinach and my pain.
I did not eat it today and will stay off it for a few days.

Omg, don't eat spinach if you get kidney stones.
They have oxalic acid, which contributes to making stones.

Be sure to take magnesium, because that will help stop the body from pulling calcium from the bones.
The extra calcium in the blood gets filtered out by the kidneys, and contributes to making stones.

I've never had kidney stones just noticed a correlation with the spinach and the pain.
