Hi everyone,

I am writing for a friend with severe arthritis. She has been treating Lyme for more than a decade but this flare has been sudden and extreme in the past couple of months.

Her fingers and toes are twisted and there is considerable bone growth and locking of joints. Wrists, back, knees, it is all over her body and there is so much distortion that she cannot hold a bowl or bend to reach in to the fridge.

She is on IV Zith right now but has bad gut problems as well. Using amitriptaline for pain. Taking good supps and other tinctures for Lyme.

Anyone out there go through anything like this? She doesn't have a doctor to work with here, can anyone recommend a Dr in the Vermont/NH or New England area who could help?

Thanks so much for your help
Susie Jo

Did she just now get on the IV?? (It hasn't had time to work?)

I think she needs more than that. Was she treated for babesia and other coinfections?

They do treat RA with antibiotics .. if you get the right doctor. So she is on the right path... with the RIGHT meds.

I'll send you what info I have for that area.

Tell her to protect her gut from candida/yeast!!!! It can cause severe pain too!

I hope this person is off gluten. Gluten causes the body to go into an auto-immune state and starts attacking itself. Make sure she's off wheat/gluten so she can rule that out.

Gluten, as you know, also causes gut problems, leaky gut.

I felt my recent bout with inflammatory arthritis was due to lyme, but in fact it may be due to inflammation in the body itself due to leaky gut, hormonal and adrenal issues, candida etc. as I learned today after seeing a new practitioner.

At this point the IV antibiotics maybe making her worse as it is causing the body to produce more inflammation. She needs someone who will look at her body as a whole, beyond lyme. Sometimes LLMD's are only focused on the antibiotics.

Definitely look into the gluten connection. I think the basis of the book The Arthritis Cure was based on a healthy diet, minus wheat and nightshades. Not positive on that but I know it had to do with diet.

I watched an anti-arthritis program last nite. They suggested a strongly anti-arthritis diet. In fact, they had people enrolled in their program, put them all on this kind of diet for a month, and people reportedly said they felt better after eating like this. So diet might really matter.

Very little protein and diary, prefer no red meat, no fried foods, no sugar, low starch.

And yes to:

lots of water, fish 2x/week, some whole grains, beans, raw vegs, dark greens, avocados, cucumber, celery, juicing, ginger, ginger tea, curcumin, cinnamon, garlic, onions, red fruits like berries, apples,

blueberries, papaya, pineapple, black currant oil, dandelion, aloe, alfalfa, seaweed, wasabi, Vit C for collagen, Vit D, fish oil, CoQ10,

silica, boswellia, nuts, seeds, olive oil, flax seeds, coconut oil, tempeh, tofu, soy, lentils and split peas and barley (for folic acid)

Also an EFAC cream to rub on the body. I think it stands for essential fatty acids cream.

In my case, I like taking powdered turmeric in capsules.

And avoid nightshades:

potatoes
eggplant
peppers
tomatoes
cayenne pepper

also.. have her go to www.roadback.org to see how those with RA are recovering with abx
