What are the methods?

Apparently Lyme can cause ammonia buildup?

How do we test for ammonia?

Yucca Root powder binds ammonia in the gut (don't know if it gets ammonia out of the brain).

Also can do ammonia flush with magnesium citrate and charcoal (& lots of water)...

The amino acid Ornithine detoxes ammonia. It gives me headaches when I take too much, which makes me think it's working.

I've been taking ornithine as well, 2-4 grams a day. Would like to try something else. Ornithine is a precursor to arginine and I don't want to feed any EBV or HHV baddies (arginine can fuel herpes viral replication).

Galactose from Biopure is the best thing we have tried. When I am feeling pain in my upper back or lungs area after taking an antiparasitic herb or med, I take Galactose and it will normally go away. We have tested it against ammonia via EDS and muscle testing and it always shows it lowers it.

"1 to 2 capsules of charcoal, followed by enough magnesium citrate to produce a bowel movement within 812 hours."

This link also says Manganese helps with ammonia detox. I personally think one should only take manganese if testing low in this trace mineral.

Thanks for all the responses [Smile]

I have some molybendum and manganese on the way so looks like I'll be trying those!

Galactose is a sugar? Any issues with candida on that one?

For me, my sweat will stink like ammonia (cat pee odor) when I have too much. And some essential oils applied topically will also cause an ammonia-like (cat pee) odor that will make my eyes burn and my nose run.

YMMV.

"An ammonia test measures the amount of ammonia in the blood. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine.

Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis.

For this test, a blood sample may be taken from either a vein or an artery.

Why It Is Done

An ammonia test is done to:

Check how well the liver is working, especially when symptoms of confusion, excessive sleepiness, coma, or hand tremor are present.
Check the success of treatment for severe liver disease, such as cirrhosis.
Help identify a childhood disorder called Reye syndrome that can damage the liver and the brain. Ammonia testing can also help predict the outcome (prognosis) of a diagnosed case of Reye syndrome.
Help predict the outcome (prognosis) of a diagnosed case of acute liver failure.
Check the level of ammonia in a person receiving high-calorie intravenous (IV) nutrition (hyperalimentation)."

well my liver consistently tests fine. i am not on abx. but i do take probiotics.

and i have been confused for a long time-but blame it on head injury. however...the last few weeks i have been falling asleep during the say which is very wiierd for me.

i'll tell the doc...but i doubt he will do anything. after the surg i will have to try to do what you guys are doing and see if it gets better. its the tears that realy bother me. bad burning
