Hey guys,

My Dr wants to start me on Gemifloxacin (Factive) next week to attack BLO (suspected). Far before Lyme I had heard many horror stories of being "floxxed" by Quinolone drugs and having permanent tendon damage body wide. I know this is more common on those who are athletic and stress their muscles/tendons more. Which I am. I lift heavy weights at the gym, play sports in leagues, etc.

As the MAIN point of me attacking my Lyme (not 100% concrete via blood) is physical problems. So I don't want to add unnecessary risk putting some Quinolone abx into the mix when I'm not even 100% sure I have Lyme.

What other abx have you heard of other good drs or been used on you by good drs for BLO?

I know In the Burascano he says
rifampin, gentamicin and possibly streptomycin.

Would love to get as much info ASAP so I can call my dr and nurse tmw and leave a not for dr to consider another drug. I'd rather try another drug and fail first then move to an Quinoline

I ruptured my Achilles' tendon after just a few days of Factive. It took a year to heal and I still have lots of adhesions and scar tissue. It does function normally, so I have no limitations.

Taking lots of Magnesium and Vit C can reduce your risk.

I switched to Rifampin and had no trouble with it. It took 18 months of Rifampin combos to get rid of my Bart symptoms, but they've never returned.

I will never take another Quinolone.

I would suggest adding the amino acid arginine to any meds for bart. But you can't take that if you have active Herpes viruses.

Buhner suggests that. I think adding that to hubby's meds helped.
