My son needs a booster shot to attend college. He is doing fine now for about 6 months off antibiotics.
Would you recommend that he get the shot or try to get the doctor to write a note explaining why he should not get it?

Is it possible to get a titre for the meningococcal antigens (sp?)
It can be done for tetanus etc., maybe they have one for the meningococcal as well.

Ugh. You are in a tough spot. College is one of those places that is a hot spot for meningitis.
Not sure if the titer test would work, unless he was vaccinated previously.
Perhaps you could ask your llmd if they think his immune system is strong enough to handle the vaccine.
We asked our LLMD for her opinion and she felt that it was a bad idea to vaccinate. However, my daughter is only in the 6th grade, so the risk of not getting the vaccine is minimal. If she were going to college, I might have misgivings.
If you do wind up getting the medical exemption, just be absolutely certain to educate your son about the signs and symptoms of bacterial meningitis. That way, if it does happen, he can get treatment right away.
