DD has a very hard time swallowing pills. She was recently rx'ed tindamax, which I was very happy about as I've read it's a great cyst buster.
Problem is she can't even tolerate a quarter of a tablet. I called around to a few pharmacies to see if it came in a liquid formulation. It doesn't, eventhough according to internet it does.
I called a couple of compounding pharmacies to see if they could "liquidize" it for me. The one that could started out by telling me that I'd have to bring the medication to them personally and that alone would cost me $40. I'm nowhere near them, so between that and the price of the med itself makes that unrealistic.
So I started doing some research. Apparently Grapefruit Seed Extract is a cyst buster? Does anyone have personal experience using GSE in this manner?
If so, can you please direct me to a website where I can purchase high quality GSE? Any advice on brands and dosing would be appreciated (probably best through PMs).
I know flagyl is also a cyst-buster. Does anyone know if this comes in liquid form? Forgot to ask the pharmacist.
Thanks!

Yes, flagyl is available in liquid.
Metronidazole (?) if I'm thinking OK, is the same as flagyl.
I had it when I was a kid for giardia.
Also my cats get it every year.
Also available in IV. (I think...)
Flagyl has worse side effects than tindi though.
Haven't tried GSE. Can't use it with biaxin. Not sure about abx from the same family as biaxin.
Hopefully others will chime in here soon about GSE.

Sorry forgot to add that when I tried liquid drops of GSE, even diluted in water, burned my throat and mouth.
But I think I did 15 drops in a glass.
Probably should have been 1 or 2 drops. Whoppsy.

Thx Greta. Good to know flagyl comes in liquid form. I know the flagyl is much tougher to tolerate than tindimax.
And DD is generally very sensitive to meds to begin with. So if we do the GSE she will have to start off very slowly.

GSE extract isn't nearly as strong or as definitively a cyst buster, but maybe that's what you will have to use for now. You could put the drops in a capsule, if need be.
A word of warning, it tastes terrible! At least the stuff I had. I tolerated it, but I'm a grown-up (at least supposed to be!).

Hi Beaches:
Our daughter also had an issue with taking pills. With the Tindamax we could crush the pill and mix it in with baby food (pear or apple).
It worked and since the liquid form of some of the medications (Doxy and Zith both come in liquid form) are more expensive if the pill can be crushed it is a plus.

Thanks Rumigirl for the heads-up abou the GSE.
And thanks Tim for letting me know we can crush the tindimax. That hadn't occurred to me. How did you crush it? Fork? Mortar/pestle?

Try mortar pestle-that is how we used to do my brothers meds.

Greta I was hoping I could just use a fork lol. Now I have to go find a mortar/pestle thing. More work, more expense. My work is never done
