Hi lads, whoelse felt first better on rifa (plus mino) and felt worse later. I am 3 months into treatment and I am really having a bad time. Has anyone had success with adding cefuroxime to the protocol? thanks for your replies, Kern

Hi Kern,
I am on rifampin. 600mg per day.
I originally started with rifampin and minocycline.
Did that for about a month.
Lyme began to flare pretty bad.
Switched to azithromycin with rifampin.
No improvement in lyme symptoms. Bartonella symptoms improved.

I felt better on Rifampin and Doxy and had a very slight decline after 3 months and then dr. added Azithromycin for 4 months with the other 2 meds. I beat Bart for 14 months from that threesome, but later when I treated a bad Lyme flare Bart came back.

I felt horrible on rifampin/zyth combo but many symptoms were gone when I went off of it. Good luck!

I am on my third month of Mino and Rifampin.... At the beginning I felt horrible... then there was three weeks I saw a lot of improvement. And now the past three days I am feeling awful again. Lots of heart stuff lately... more than normal. I am almost 100% positive my head pressure is getting better... but I am not quite sure yet.
What are/were your bart symptoms?

I thought it was interesting that Greta said that her Lyme flared when on Rifampin because my LLMD was just telling me that many incorrectly think that Rifampin has some effect against borrelia (Lyme) but it actually has none.
He learned this from THE Dr. B, when he sat next to him at a Lyme conference. Dr. B apparently said that when they are doing research in the lab and need to isolate the borrelia, they use Rifampin to kill off all the other things.

But, there is the old adage: deeply suppress or eliminate one infection, and another infection takes over and presents in front.
So, some LLMD's say treat it all at once- most I could do was 2 high dose antibiotics, sometime 3, together at one time, so then
I'd add herbals for the infection I wasn't on antibiotics for at the time. Example: taking HH2 caps for Bart while on Bicillin and Tindamax for Lyme, etc.
Rifampin became non- effective for me when I stopped and started it- so if you can hang onto it, continue it, go for it.

Wish I could have used Rifampin, but after a couple of doses, acid reflux became so much worse, and now there are very few antibiotics I can tolerate.
The reflux got so bad that I've had to follow a very strict diet, including giving up gluten.
Yeah, I know Bart can cause reflux, but in this case Rifampin seemed to create a reflux monster.
Now I'm doing Zithromax, Bar-1 and looking at Buhner's herbs to possibly add.
