Was diagnosed with lyme in 1994, took antibiotics and battled with it for a few years and got totally better in 2001. Now I'm feeling lots of muscle aches and occasional lightheadedness. Been tested for lots of stuff, which all come up normal. Sleep and fatigue are all fine, so probably ruling out fibromyalgia.
Weird to have been completely better for 12-13 years and then all of a sudden coming back? More likely something else going on? I know I wasn't rebitten.
Thoughts?

Possible you could have a parasite infection which is much more common than people realize. Over 90% of the population has parasites.
Check out the info and symptom list at Humaworm. Has been the missing link for many with chronic Lyme. Also check out the PARASITE WARRIORS SUPPORT THREAD here on lymenet.

At age 50, that could start now with gluten or candida/yeast? Never had issues before.

If lyme is "reactivated," does it make harder to eradicate again?

You should probably see an LLMD for evaluation.
If it is a reactivation, better to get it early.
If you've been around new construction, new paint, new furniture, driving around for several hours in a new car, ALL that can cause stress on the body because of the VOCs.
I can easily see that reactivating Lyme or other infections.
Personally, having lived in LA for several years in the past, I find just daily living there stressful on the body, especially with all the pollution.

I don't think if you have a "relaspe" of Lyme disease it would make it harder to treat or to regain another remission, actually if you are able to fight it off once you should be able to again.
I had NO IDEA years ago that a person could carry the Lyme bacteria in a somewhat dormant state and not even know they had it.
I believe I had it in my body for years before it came out with a vengence during extreme stress caused by my son becoming sick with Lyme and all the run around and trouble we had getting him diagnosed and treated ( we had to travel to CT. to get him proper treatment - he is now in remission).
As impossible as it is to diagnose something for someone you don't know and have never met I do know if you have a history of tick bites and or a past Lyme infection if you show up EVEN YEARS later with bizarre health problems and you rule out other things than I would ABSOLUTELY see an LLMD to evaluate things futher.

Most people cannot detect a nymph that is the size of the period on the end of this sentence. And that nymph can be loaded with stuff, as well as fairly difficult to notice, especially if it's on someone's head. I found one on the side of my ankle before and thought it was just a scab from a flea bite. I know people who have gotten bit on their driveway, and even walking in downtown NYC. It is the season.
I've also had several lyme specialists tell me that lyme can hide (in remission or never before surfacing) in the body for decades. Stress brings it out (or another bite). I agree with Gael too (parasites).
