I'm taking 50-100 billion probiotics (not with the doxy... but at another point in the day) - and for the most part, I don't have the runs or anything.
But holy cow - suddenly, after a week of taking it with no problems, starting a few days ago, within 20 minutes of taking it, my stomach starts churning, I feel nauseous, sour...
I'm taking it with a whole meal. I've tried taking it before I eat, in the middle of when I'm eating...
I've tried eating different things, larger meals...
I'm really struggling here. It doesn't help that I'm petrified of throwing up, so it sends my anxiety through the roof on top of it.
I've also started getting headaches the last 3 or 4 days too.
I don't know if I can do this for MONTHS. HELP!

Sometimes, if folks can't stomach doxy, their docs will switch them to minocycline.
It is very gentle on the stomach. In fact is taken on an empty stomach.
Things that helped me were taking peppermint oil pills with the doxy-they sell them for IBS.
Chewing gum helped.
Also gravol makes a ginger anti nauseant and it works good.

Ginger! Start taking ginger capsules, ginger juice, ginger tea, anything ginger when you take the doxy.
Are you taking capsules or tablets? I found that the capsules cause me to have more nausea and stomach upset and I do better with the tablets.
The woman who runs by Lyme support group suggested for me to take it with some carbs. This really helped for me.
I'll eat a rice cake with it or rice crackers. Even steamed rice. Those kinds of things. You don't need a lot.

The only thing I could eat when I took doxy was oatmeal... so the suggestion about taking it with carbs might be on to something.
Ginger tea reduced my nausea.
I also took Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) about 20 minutes before taking the doxy and it helped decrease the nausea.
Depending on your co-infections, if you can't tolerate the doxy, you might be able to take biaxin or zithromax instead? I've also heard Doryx (Doxycycline Hyclate) is easier on the stomach. I could only tolerate the doxy for 6 weeks, although it was GREAT for weight loss since I felt too sick to eat.
