I have never had any problem taking any antibiotic before but monday I started cefdinir

and rifampin with food and water and the first day was fine but ever since my stomach has been

killing me and I can't keep any food in me. I am wondering if it is the cefdinir or rifampin thats

killing my stomach. Im trying to tough it out becuase I can feel it working because I am

herxing and havent herxed in weeks. My LLMD told me to stop both of them for now but I really

don't want to. Ive been doing the pro biotics, fiber, and eating healthy as well. I can tolerate

doxy and cefuroxime no problem even withouth food. Can anyone relate to this?

It's always best to begin one drug at a time so you know how you react to that drug. Perhaps you could stop only ONE of the two and see how you feel?

Are you having stomach cramps or diarrhea, or what?

Most LLMD's put you on 3-4 antibiotics all at once in the beginning and it does make it hard to know which one is causing trouble for you. Cefdinir is the culprit for me. I had all kinds of stomach issues and diarrhea with that one and had to stop it.

Make sure that you eat a good size meal with the Rifampin. It can cause stomach issues if you don't eat enough. Although the directions say to take it on an empty stomach, most people can't tolerate that drug unless they eat food when they take it.

Make sure you tell your LLMD about this if it doesn't go away.

Are you taking them with food? That should make it a little easier.

TB

Florastor or a cheaper (Sachromyces Boulardi sp? probiotic)should help with the diarrhea. This one type of probiotic is not in any of the common multi-strain brands.

Try ginger tablets or a ginger tea to help calm your nausea.

I only had diarrhea for the first day now its just constant stomach cramping and frequent bathroom

trips. My LLMD said it probably wont get better and will only do damage if I tried to fight through it

so she is switching cefdinir with ceruforxime. This kind of bums me out but I hope it was the cefdinir

causing the stomach issuses and not the rifampin otherwise this will be a waste of time.

I'd be willing to bet it was the Cefdinir.

Yes to the s.boulardii, better known as Florastor. You can get it at CVS or Walgreen's. It will stop diarrhea in its tracks.

Do not just go full speed ahead. You have to be wise and take care of yourself. I'm glad your Dr said NO to continuing!

Depends on the individual. Cefuroxime is Ceftin but it isn't as broad spectrum as Cefdinir. I had to take Ceftin because I couldn't tolerate the Cefdinir.

Really either antibiotic can be the problem and if you can't tolerate one of them, your LLMD will just substitute another.

Stop one of them to see if the stomach cramping goes away. Then let your doctor know.

We have all had some drug along the way cause trouble. There are lots of abx you can try if one of the ones you are taking is making you sick.

I take rifampin and zith on an empty stomach...doesn't bother me at all.

I'm glad your doc isn't stopping the rifampin. It is a really good one for Bart and has helped me a lot with head pressure and head pain.
