I increased my dose of doxy and a few days later I got this weird reaction... Squiggly lines in my left eye and then dizzyness and a migraine that lasted two days. I'm assuming this was a herx but what's up with the squiggly lines?? Has anyone experienced this before?

It most likely IS a herxheimer -- and it's affecting your inner ear as doxy can do (as many Rx can do).

The inner ear (vestibular system) is the very first body system to warn of toxic overload. The inner ear affects vision. The squiggly lines can be a form of NYSTAGMUS. Details in the EAR thread to follow.

Magnesium is the #1 helper for the ear connection and also for the eye muscles that can also "tweak out" from toxic overload, the NMDA nerve receptor on high alert. And the brain nerves, too.

MAGNESIUM to calm the excess NMDA excitatory nerve "spasms" - and LIVER SUPPORT to help manage the herx (an overload of toxicity) and ALLOW your body (not force it) to move on out the toxins.

Now, 3rd influence: ototoxic drugs. Yes, sad to say that doxycyline is a drug that can be toxic to the ear system. Many can. But doxy is not as harsh in that department as others can be.

However, since lyme, itself, is toxic to the ears, the brain, the liver, the whole body . . . something MUST be done to assertively treat. Rx combination, strong enough and long enough are important.

But ALONG with key support. That must be on board. Details next post.

Magnesium is a wonderful helper to calm NYSTAGMUS (the twitching of the eyes that cause "wavy" or spastic vision). FISH OIL, too, is vital.

What can make everything so much worse:

Excitotoxins; MSG; Aspartame; & "Natural" Flavors (that are not likely natural at all) . . .

Someone mentioned to me that the squiggly line can be an indication of parasites...?

As this symptom is directly tied to your reaction to doxy, likely due to the liver stress. And magnesium and fish oil are the 2 places to start for relief.

Still, ask your LLMD what will be done to address the kinds of parasite issues that everyone with lyme faces. Parasites add to the toxic load (and liver support will help along the way).

I had all kind of eye issues. I think it is parasites. But I advice you find a good LLMD that also looks at parasites. My eye issues are better, treating for parasites.
