Hi All - It has probably been a year or so since I have posted. I have been on and off oral antibiotics for about two years for active lyme confirmed on western blot. I have not noticed much improvement. Although admittedly, I have not stuck with dietary restrictions and continue to drink alcohol socially so that probably doesn't help matters. But it keeps me sane while working full time with chronic lyme.
Here's my question:
My LLMD recently changed my protocol. I won't list the whole thing here, but he has me taking Rifabutin (antimicrobial) and Voriconazole (antifungal) on the same days of my protocol. Online, I read that they are contraindicated together because the Voriconazole raises the plasma levels of Rifabutin while Rifabutin lowers plasma levels of Voriconazole. Has anyone else had their doctor prescribe these together? Is it safe?
My current protocol is a cocktail of different ABX and antifungals. On the days with the Rifabutin and Voriconazole, I am also taking Omnicef, Minocycline, and Flagyl. Ugh. Today I had diarrhea even while taking Sacchromyces Boulardi. That has not happened before. I wonder if it is the mix of the Rifabutin and Voriconazole that is causing it.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks.

Ask your pharmacist about drug interactions - they usually know more about this than most MD's...
