i have this deep chesty cough which won't go away. every doctor i've seen, including my lllmd, says exactly the same thing "that's a bad cough you've got there. you should have it looke at."
oh sure, and then they do nothing, including the llmd.
i don't cough up anything, well mostly i don't. occasionally i cough up very solid looking crap, slighly yellow in color.
they do x-rays and say chest is clear. i've had this for at least a year. worse in morning.
i asked my llmd and he said don't drink milk, stay away from dairy and it will go away.
every year i get at least one case of severe bronchitis.
can't take anything over the counter because of blood pressure.
it did not clear up with lyme treatment. yeast maybe?? but difulcan didn't help either.

I have had a chronic cough quite frequently over the past couple of years - similar thing - clear chest, but dry recurring cough.
In most of these for me was related to allergy (I think) and small amounts of post nasal drip that was getting into my lungs and causing the irritation and cough.
I will say that I did go onto an elimination diet a couple of months ago and have not eaten wheat, grains, dairy or so since then - The cough has largely gone away and not come back, so maybe there is a kernal of truth about your LLMD's milk comment.

My daughter has cough-reactive asthma. Hubby has asthma but we didn't recognize daughter's cough as asthma because we only thought asthmatics presented with wheezing.
Turns out there is cough-reactive and wheeze-reactive asthma. Could you possibly have asthma?

I would get a nebulizer and nebulize colloidal silver in. I would also increase my vitamin c to at least 10 grams a day. I'd do this for a month. If I wasnt well by then Id start thinking more along the lines of asthma.
I have what you call cough reactive asthama but it can change in a flash to wheezing if the stimulus is too strong. I've only wheezed 3 or 4 times in the last 8 years. I always carry an inhaler just incase. Ive seen what a wheezing asthama attack can do to the unprepared. I manage the cough symptoms with Heel's Tautophedreel. Many people with worse asthma than me get very good results with it. Its not a drug and is very safe.

Hmm my husband has said that he notices when I lay down at night I start "whistling" when I breathe.
Is that the same as wheezing?

I doubt it. It may be related to your airway being slightly occluded though. Happens to lots of people when they get older, occlusion of the airway, which can also lead to apnea and then to a bi-pap machine to keep the airway pressurized at night so the airway doesn't occlude..... or do I mean c-pap? I forget.
wheezing is from the tiny air sacks in the lungs shutting down or from the bronchial tubes tighening up, causing real respiratory distress
