I have not posted here for a very long time I am still battling lyme but have just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

I meet with the surgeon and asked if the pathologist could also look at the removed lump for borrelia, he said that he new nothing about lyme but would look into it.

If they cant do it I was wondering if anyone new of a pathologist or lab within Canada that would do such a thing and of course any other suggestions

Thanks and regards

Aww maps.

I am SO SORRY you have been hit with another blow.

Personally, I don't think Canada has appropriate testing available for borrelia.

The following is fairly dark, so don't read if you are feeling morose:

The Complex Chronic Disease Clinic out of BC Women's Hospital in Vancouver, has requested the patients and non-patients infected with lyme to make arrangements so when they die, the patient may be taken to another nearby hospital to have a full autopsy with many tissue samples taken. The tissues will then be placed into the BioBank until the technology is Canada is able to test the tissues for lyme and other pathogens effectively.

We were told that at that clinics open house.

So doctors "In The Know", know that the testing available in Canada is inadequate for testing tissues for borrelia at this time.

Hopefully others will chime in soon.

I am assuming that Igenex and Advanced may be the best options, but am not completely certain.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, maps.

Greta

maps, I am very sorry you have breast cancer.

Definitely call IgeneX, 800-832-3200, to see if they can test the tumor. I know they can test gallbladders.

I hope your treatment goes well. Please keep us updated on how you are doing.

So sorry to hear this maps. It must be incredibly difficult to be dealing with breast CA on top of everything else. Sending prayers and good thoughts your way.

I had hoped to get the necrotic bone in my jaw tested for borellia and other coinfections when I had oral surgery, but I wasn't assertive enough to ask for these things specifically. I just asked for a pathology report. Now I wish I had been more specific. Perhaps Igenex is the way to go.

With all the inflammation we suffer from this illness, we are more at risk for cancer, unfortunately. I hope you get some answers.

Have you read about Essiac Tea? This might be helpful to you while you are going through all of this.

hi Maps I would call igenix. a human answers and they're really really nice I have tried to have things tested though and it's really difficult for a lot of different reasons

also I had a lumpectomy in June and I am dealing with the breast cancer thing so if you ever wanna p.m. Let's do thatI have a good prognosis but like lyme its a journey and not a short one

I wish you were in the states-or i was there so we could talk on the phone...no one i have met at support groups has a clue about fighting cancer when your body is already tired from lyme

Hi maps,
Sorry I can't help with testing for LD, but I think it could be helpful if you can find a lab that will do it. I hope this has been detected early for you.

I had early stage breast cancer almost 14 years ago. Had a lumpectomy and 15 lymph nodes removed (procedure has improved since then). Had radiation, but no chemo and I did fine.
It may have helped that I had been on abx for a good while prior to surgery. I imagine you've asked your LLMD about this. If not, please see what he/she recommends.

In "Coping with Lyme Disease...", Denise Lang quotes a young lady who had two cancers and LD.
She said "I'd trade my Lyme disease for two more cancers any day." I found her attitude to be encouraging when I was facing cancer surgery.

I also have a quote from one of the speakers at the Lyme Disease Foundation 1996 Lyme Conference:
"We're beginning to recognize some important associations between chronic infections and development of cancers in humans." I wish I had more information concerning his statement.

I have no formal medical training....just what I've learned from dealing with TBDs since 1992.
But my interpretation of what he said was that chronic infections wear down and stress out the immune system to the point that the stray cancer cells that occur can not be controlled. Breast cancer may not contain the Lyme bacteria at all, but on the other hand, this bacteria seems to seek out our weak points, so it could be there.

I'd love to hear the opinions of those who are more knowledgeable than I am.

Wishing you a successful surgery and speedy recovery!!

So sorry for the tardy reply things went a little whacky. Such wonderful replies thank you all so much.

gretm: I was so angry when I read about the complex chronic disease's stance on testing tissue it is almost like telling doctors not to bother with lyme, no wonder can lyme has ended its support for the organization. What about Dr McDonalds research all he had was a very large microscope.

ipkayak: I am so sorry to hear about your cancer but you are right it is a journey but compared to lyme where you have to be your own doctor and do all the research it is so much nicer that someone else is doing the planning.

I don't know what stage yet as I have had so much pain in the last few years and the fact that the lump was visible two years ago they are going to do a full body bone scan plus a full body scan they did a biopsy of the lump which was cancer and one lymp node which showed none.

They will be removing the lump and three lymph nodes on the 23rd. Oh and by the way I did not ignore the lump two years ago I had a mammogram but they said nothing showed up I had a referral from the walk in clinic to a specialist who told me it was all that was left of my breast muscle so I have not been worried about it. I finally found a GP and this mammogram was part of the initial examination.

cbb: That's execatly how I feel give me more cancer and take away the lyme

Yes I have been thinking about igenex and I asked the surgeon how long they will keep my bits and pieces (LOL)for he said seven years so at least I don't have to rush. I was hoping to get a Canadian diagnosis. A couple of years ago my dog was being tested for something so I actually got the name of the lab and had a dna test done but they did not find lyme or babesia but I may approach them again

regards

Good luck, Maps.

The heavy metal / chemicals connection with both lyme and cancer is often mooted. Perhaps that is an area to explore.

Hope you manage to get it tested and find the results useful.

So sorry for your cancer; pray all will heal.

These 2 statements were on a list of effects of Japanese Knotweed resveratrol by Beneficial Botanicals:

Cancer - Resveratrol in Japanese Knotweed inhibits cancer cells without harming the liver. Studies indicate the most beneficial use to be in pancreatic, breast, and ovarian cancers.

Cancer - Resveratrol has been found to reduce tumor volume, tumor weight, and lung metastasis at doses of 2.5 and 10 mg/kg in mice with highly metastatic lung carcinoma (LLC) tumors (Kimura, 2001).

I think taking the Japanese Knotweed (polygonum cuspidatem) whole root supplement is probably better than taking a supplement containing the resveratrol portion of Knotweed by itself, but
NOW brand Resveratrol from polygonum cuspidatem (not from grapes) has been effective for me in weight loss and hopefully for battling lyme (one of its purported benefits), and is inexpensive.

Wish you good progress.

Nancy

maps,

I remember you well!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your breast cancer diagnosis. I pray for your full recovery from it and lyme.

There are some very interesting natural treatments for breast (and other) cancers on the naturalnews.com site. Just search breast cancer on their page.

All the best to you!!
