I understand why thyroid is low. I accidentally went from 96 mcg to 75 for 4 months.

But in Sept, MCV was flagged as high and started on methylcobalmin shots. Now the MCV still went up.

Also I take 5500 ius of D3 for yeaars and I tested at 25 (normal is 30-80) So I'll start on the once a week 50,000 D2 pill.

Is this bart or thyroid related?

My guess is thyroid and stress.

Hi Marz:

On the Hydroxy 125 level you should be targeting over 50 (from Quest and 70 from Labcorp as their is about a 20 level difference in their results).

I know the guidelines are under 30 is deficient but one should be targeting a higher level.

It is the D3 not D2 which is what one needs for the liver to convert to the Hydroxy 25.

As for pill, the body doesn't process power form so it should be gel or liquid.

Good luck.

Its my opinion that with vitamin D3 and chronic disease the level should be 70 to 90.

I've used Biotec brand for years now and have had tests done to confirm it's absorbabilty. There is none better.

I was told by 2 different doctors that the body uses 4000-6000IU of Vitamin D every day. So if you are deficient, it is generally considered advisable to take upwards of 10,000IU of Vitamin D3 daily to correct the deficiency.

Of course, in the Summertime, going outside between 11am-2pm for some sunshine (without sunscreen) is the best way to get Vitamin D...

As for the MCV, what's your Folate status? Folate deficiency can also cause macrocytic anemia...

I started methyl folate in Sept. It hadn't made a difference. Sometimes I have forgotten to take it but won't anymore.

It worries me that with the methycobalamin shots starting in Sept, my mcv went up a little.

I'm thinking of skipping the D2 rx. I like this new primary care and hate to go against her on this because she's been wonderful.

I think she just wanted me to get a boost immediatelly.

Is it totally worthless or should I do the 50,000 once a week for a week or two?

Talked to an integrative nutritionist today and he said double my D3 to 10,000 per day.
