Just a quick question. I have been told to take meriva (curcumin) twice a day for inflammation by
my LLMD but she didnt give me any instructions on when to take it or anything like away from meds or
with food and the bottle has no directions like that. Does anyone know when it is safe to take?

I usually take it with food, but have also taken it several times without food and caused no problems.

Does it have to be taken away from medication?

I take it with food, but only because it IS a food. Somewhere on this forum it said to take it as far away from Vitamin C as possible.
My tumeric (curcumin) is by Source Naturals, and the instructions are on the bottle. I take 2 tablets twice a day with meals, and if any significant joint or neck ache, 2 tablets 3 times a day.
You might go by a health food store and read the instructions on a Source Naturals tumeric extract bottle. I have adjusted the dose to what is effective for my personal symptoms.
It is the only anti-inflammatory I need to take for taking away joint & muscle pain. It is supposed to have some other beneficial effects, too. I understand that it is the spice in curry, and I have had absolutely no side effects.

ABX, in the newspaper there is a syndicated column entitled, "People's Corner" all about herbal and non-traditional treatments. A study they reported on found NOW herbals to have the best curcumin i.e. the most herb per capsule, and, there were no insect parts inside. It seems that this can be a problem with other brands.

I take Enhansa by Lee Silsby pharmacy. Honestly, no other Curcumin product clears my GI inflammation like Enhansa,
and I've taken Longvida, Thornes Mervina, etc.
There is a LLMD who has some video testimonies about it, his patients' reports.
It is the highest priced, but, you can have your Dr. write a prescription for it and get it covered. I don't have a script, pay full price as it's helping me clear my gut right now.
P.S. I take it 3x a day, not on antibiotics anymore.

Have read that curcumin is also very helpful in preventing the formation of brain "plaques" that can develop into Alzheimer's. If so, I guess it'll be in my diet weekly!
I understand I'm already at a higher risk for the disease due to the late-stage Lyme I was Dx'ed with in 2005, even though I've been essentially [Lyme] symptom-free for years.

Sorry TBrown, that it hasn't helped your arthritis symptoms yet. It took about 5-7 days before I noticed joint symptoms relieved. Perhaps I did not have too much joint damage yet.
On lyme and alzheimers, I read that one study biopsied brains of 25 alzheimers (dead) patients and all 25 had lyme bacteria present.
Perhaps they were just living in an endemic area, or perhaps a lot of lyme-infected patients (old with arthritis, brain deterioration etc) are mis-diagnosed with alzheimer's.....instead of being properly diagnosed with lyme and brain symptoms.

Fact of the matter is that Alzheimers is a basket diagnosis. It has no ETIOLOGY.
In the cases mentioned by Nancy the disease is Lyme with Alzheimer's effect, sort of like Lyme with arthritis effect.
I use to work in a locked down Alzheimer's facility. Pretty damm scary how those patients are treated or better yet, how they are not treated but wearhoused till the lyme or the dementia it causes kills them. http://lymedisease.org/news/hardscienceonlyme/802.htmlPosts: 803 | From USA | Registered: Oct 2013

Carmen, it's interesting, however, that Dr Alan McDonald found spirochetes in 7 out of 10 autopsied brains of people who died from Alzheimer's - so there's a strong suspicion at this point that Lyme may cause Alzheimer's.
